How the St. Albans City Fire Truck Got It’s Name: A collection of short stories

Monday June 13th at 9:00 3rd and 4th grade authors and illustrators from St. Albans City School will share their Fire Truck Stories. After the 19 contestant stories are read, the winning story, that will name the new fire truck, will be revealed.

A few months ago, the City of St. Albans asked the St. Albans City School to write a story to help them name the new St. Albans City Fire Truck. The school was so excited to have this opportunity, and held a writing and drawing contest for all students in 3rd and 4th grade. From this group 19 authors and illustrators were selected. The authors worked for weeks getting their stories from a first draft to a final draft. The illustrators each paired with an author and illustrated the author’s story.

When they were ready, the stories were delivered to the City Police/Fire Chief, Gary Taylor, who facilitated the selection process. On Monday June 13th at 9:00, each of the stories will be read aloud to a group of students. After two readings of each story, everyone will gather at the front of the school. The St. Albans City School Senior Band will play a song to get us ready for the announcement. The winner will be announced, and the truck will have a name.

A picture of all of the authors and illustrators will be taken with the New Fire Truck. This picture will be the cover of the short story book that will be available of all of the stories from the contest.

On Monday the Greenbeans are back. They will be playing at lunch, and they have a sing that was written for our school.

The Kindergarten students would like to thank their team USA buddies for an awesome carnival! They enjoyed all of the activities and really liked spending time with the 7th and 8th grade students.

Thank you!

8th Grade Graduation

Dear Families of our 8th Grade Students,

We have been working on the final details for graduation, and we have decided to move the event back to our school. We want our students to be celebrated in the school they have attended for 9 years.

This past winter when we were making plans for our summer construction project, Dave Kimmel offered to let us use Collins Perley for our 8th grade graduation. Knowing that the construction project was going to impact the whole school, I accepted his offer.

Graduation is June 16th and our gym will be available. Having the ceremony at a remote site is causing many logistical problems. This week I have polled several people responsible for making this event special for our students, and the overwhelming consensus has been that we want to say goodbye to our 8th grade in our school.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call. We are looking forward to celebrating our 8th graders with the tradition of a St. Albans City School Graduation. They deserve nothing less.

Thank you for your support,
Sincerely,

Joan Cavallo
