News from Team USA

Mr. Larry Ross brought his stories, patriotism, and one big flag to City School last week.  Ross is a retired teacher from Maine and owns the Lingdbergh Crate Musuem in Canaan, ME.  Mr. Ross is on a mission, sponsored by General Pace and his wife, to pursue and share the rights of all United States citizens. He shares his story of his happiness and along his way hopes to make an impact on those he connects with.  He stopped by St. Albans City School with Retired Lieutenant Colonel Barent "Bear" Rogers on his tour of all 50 states to collect share his story with the kids, collect pledge cards, and encourage people with the many messages in his presentation.  Team USA was chosen as the representative for Vermont for his tour and the pledge cards will be stored on the USS America at the end of Mr. Ross's quest.  The visit was recorded and is 1.5 hours long, but contains some good messages.

June Walk to School Day

Friday June 6th is the Last Official Walk to School Day for Spring 2014
Please consider finding some way to walk or bike to school this next Friday.  Join one of our six walking school bus groups or come on your own.  Teachers perhaps you could park a mile away and walk in from there?  Students, if your parents normally drive you in to school, ask them to walk you in instead.  We had 240 participants last time.  Lets see if we can beat that number this time!  Wrist bands and stickers to all student participants.

There is free coffee and a bowl of cereal for parents who walk or bike to school with their kids.  If parents need a ride home, we can organize that.

Walk to School Days T-Shirts

After the last of the five Walk to School days are completed (final one is Friday June 6th), and shortly before school ends, the winners of the Walk to School T-Shirts will be awarded.

Only those who completed all five walks will earn a T-shirt.  We are combing the sign in sheets to determine who may earn a shirt.  Those who do get a shirt were the hearty souls who walked when it was windy and 10 degrees outside, not just the pleasant days we have now.

If you have questions about the award shirts you can contact Mitch Craib at craibm@fcsuvt.org

Are you interested in playing soccer? Well if so, there is a great opportunity for you to learn the game, play the game, and have some serious fun! If you are interested in further information, stop by the front office or by Mr. Marlow's room in the Voyager community to pick up an application.

SACS News

On May 19th, Google published a case-study on St. Albans City School. The case study focused on two projects that some of our 7th and 8th graders have been involved with, but it's a celebration of all of the powerful learning opportunities that our students have.

The study starts with the City Lights project that USA students worked on three years ago and presented to the City Council two years ago. From their, it moves to the present (and future) with the St. Albans Recreation Reserve (Hard'ack/Aldis Hill trail restoration project) that the Renaissance community is currently working on and will continue to work on in the coming years.

Great work, SACS!
