News from Renaissance

Renaissance students learned to Shake It Off and have some fun.

Band


6th grade violins will be having their lesson today, at 12:30.

Could all beginning violin and cello students please see Mr. Mehaffey today to get a note home about lessons, which will be starting next Monday and Tuesday. It is very important that you get this note today. Come down any time.


Full orchestra will be on Thursday afternoon.

Codesmyths Applications Are DUE TODAY!

Last reminder:  applications to attend Codesmyths this year are due today (Wednesday, October 1)!  Any applications received on Thursday or later will not be considered.  Once again:  remember to use your best writing skills — spelling, punctuation, and descriptive thoughts all count.

Tutoring


After School Tutoring will begin on Monday October 20.  If your child brought home paperwork from their teacher, please return it as soon as possible.  If you are interested in tutoring for your child or have any questions, please contact Sheryl Aliquo or Peg Jehle at 527-0565 x2211.

Walking Contest Results



Discovery wins the golden shoe award for the most miles walked last week. This community reached the top by walking at least one lap on the path every day and by tabulating all walking and biking miles to and from school.  Nice work!

Walk to School Day - Wednesday October 1st



Please join one of the seven walking school bus route groups coming to school on Wednesday, or walk/bike in on your own.  Participants will receive pencils and stickers once they get to school.  Adults who join in are welcome to coffee and cereal at the cafeteria.  If parents need transport home, something can be arranged.

Open House








Thank you to all of the parents and families who joined us for our Open House and Harvest Dinner on Thursday evening. We had 126 people complete the Scavenger Hunt and enter the Farm to School Raffle. And the winners are....

Gracie From Investigators won a Mum Plant.
Evan from Pre-K won Apple Sauce.
Jared from Investigators won a Mum Plant.
Marie from the Travelers won Pickles.
Jordon from Explorers won a Mum Plant.

Band

Beginning Band students have lessons today and tomorrow. Please remember your instrument and lesson book on your lesson day. 

CC, Emma, and Noah have lessons this morning.

String instrument lessons will be starting next Monday afternoon. If your parents need to rent an instrument, please see Mr. Mehaffey for the rental info, if you have not done so already.

Just another reminder to get your Codesmyths application filled out by this coming Wednesday (October 1)!  Again, we only have room for about 16 students in the class, so use your best writing skills — spelling, punctuation, and clear, creative writing all count.

Walk to School Days





In October we will hold "Walk to School Days" every Wednesday (October 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th). Students please join one of the seven walking school bus groups or walk/bike in on your own. Parents are welcome to join in too.  Let's celebrate Fall weather together.

Open Doors

The Leadership at BFA class is starting today, Monday, September 29th.
Session A students enrolled in the class will come to the cafeteria at 2:45.
Session B students enrolled in the class will go to bus #3 at 3:10 dismissal and check in with Open Doors before boarding the bus.  Open Doors will be waiting near the bus for you to check-in.

Please feel free to come by the Open Doors office if you have any questions.
This is the only class that is beginning today.  Open Doors acceptance letters will be going out this week. We are so excited to see so many students continuing their learning.  It will be great to see all of you!

Dance Tonight hosted by Discovery for Grades 4-6

It's $3 to get in and it's from 6:00-8:00pm.

Arrival and Dismissal from Dances:

Students enter through the gymnasium doors and sign themselves into the dance.

School Expectations (Safe, Achieving, Caring) remain at all evening events and that includes dances.

At the end of our dances, chaperones and staff will walk students through the building to our front lobby. We will dismiss from there.

Please be prompt for pick up as staff and chaperones need to get home too. If your student does not have a ride home, please don’t send them to our dances unless they have made arrangements before coming to the dance.


News from Team Discovery





Last Saturday 18 Discovery students (not all pictured) joined Ms. Klein and Ms. Maguire in Taylor Park to see the reenactment of the St. Albans Raid, watch the Heritage Review, and play some of Clara's Games (children's games from the Civil War Era). On Sunday Mrs. Lucas also ran in the Raid Half Marathon.  It was a great weekend for Team Discovery to take our learning beyond the school day and beyond the classroom!


Discovery is going on a field trip today to The St. Albans Historical Museum.

Puppets in Education


Handy Chevrolet is sponsoring a full day of Puppets in Education presentations at St. Albans City School Tuesday, September 30 at 8:309:451:00 PM and 1:45 PM
Parents and siblings are welcome to attend any performance.
Puppets in Education (PiE) includes Kids on the Block-VT and Friend2FriendPrograms-VT and is dedicated to teaching children how to keep themselves safe and healthy and to appreciate each other's physical and cultural differences. Using life-sized puppets, this program seeks to support parents and communities in helping children reach their full potential.

Puppets in Education will be presenting the program Blue and Clean:
Through an engaging skit featuring a number of water creatures who talk with a friendly boy puppet, followed by an interactive workshop, the program includes the following concepts and more:
-Plant and aquatic wildlife
-watersheds and how they work
-phosphorus and algae
-contaminants and threats to the health of Lake Champlain
-health and diversity ecosystems
-family and community use of the lake
-stewardship
-environmental friendly action steps

Bicycle/Skate/Ski Helmet
Orders Due TODAY!

There will be ONE helmet drive this Fall.  Anyone needing to order a bicycle, skate boarding, or ski helmet should pick up an order form from the bulletin board area of the school's front lobby.  Contact Mitch Craib at craibm@fcsuvt.org 802 527 0565 x3217 with questions.  If price is a concern, please let Mitch know.  Everyone riding on wheels or skis should be wearing a helmet.  Link to helmet order form that can be printed out.

Shelburne Museum Passes

Shelburne Museum has generously given SACS passes for free admission for one child on weekends. You can pick up a pass at the Front Desk!
