Explorer's 2nd and 3rd Graders do the Crazy Santa Dance for Indoor Exercise
Mrs Cox's students found the (Just Dance 2) Crazy Christmas Santa Clones video to exercise to.  It starts moderately and then the pace picks up dramatically.  Give it a try.

Walking Wednesday - TODAY!




Parents -please urge your kids to join one of the walking school buses that passes near your home.  Please feel free to join in as well.  

Band

6th grade violin is rehearsing today at 12:30.

Full Orchestra is tomorrow morning at 8.

Lessons this morning include Forrest, GG, Maya, and Avery.

Announcements 3-31-15

News from Band and Chorus





Students in Chorus and Band performed on Friday and Saturday at Missisquioi Valley Union High School in Swanton, in the Northern VT Music Educators Middle School music festival. City School had students from Miss Gelfon's chorus and Mr. Mehaffey's band performing in the festival Chorus, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble. Twenty students from City School participated. Last weekend, two former City School students performed in the All New England Band and Orchestra in a fantastic concert in Keene, NH. Camille and Nate Gunter were in New Hampshire for three days, in rehearsals and concerts. We are very proud of their work.

Walking Wednesday




Last year on April 4th 202 people came out on a 25 degree morning.  It should be nearly 20 degrees tomorrow, so please join us in trying to surpass this turnout. Everyone is welcome: students, parents, teachers. Coffee and oatmeal available in the cafeteria for parents and volunteers who join in.

8th grade violins are at 11:30.

Beginning strings lesson is this afternoon at 2:45.

SACS has science enrichment curriculum exploring how different birds build nests, lay eggs, and care for their young.  Please contact Heather Smith smithh@fcsuvt.org 
to coordinate this exciting science unit in your classroom.

Band

Jr. Band lessons are happening today for sax, oboe, clarinet, flute, trumpet and trombone. Please be on time.

Jr. Band is rehearsing tomorrow.

Beginning violin and cello are not having practice this afternoon. Those students may leave their instruments in the band room this afternoon, and we will have a make up lesson tomorrow afternoon.


Thank you and congratulations to the students in chorus and band who participated in this weekends district band and chorus festival. The groups performed great, and we are proud of our City School musicians.


Walking  Wednesdaydnesday



Walk/Bike to School is this week on Wednesday!  The weather is predicted to be relatively warm and dry.  Come and join us.  We want as big a turnout as possible.  Ask your parents to join the walk.  Teachers, consider parking a mile away on one of our routes and join in or, park at school and then walk out to join a group heading into school.

The Incredible 6th grade class worked hard on a recent unit and decided to take a few minutes to come together and have a little fun.  Students and teachers released a little energy by having a Lip Sync battle.  The battle was debuted on Fun Friday to the rest of the team and each member voted on the top six acts.  Enjoy.

Autism Awareness


As you know April is Autism Awareness month, Kaleidoscope wants to involve one and all!  We are doing Au-some things for awareness during April!


Door Decorating contest!!!- Share your knowledge, creativity and awareness by decorating your classroom door! Starting on April 1st we challenge you to find a way to make your door AU-SOME.  The Kaleidoscope team will be by on Friday April 3rd to judge the doors, and the winner will be announced on Monday April 6th. The winning class will receive all the goods for a spectacular Ice Cream Party!!!!


Drawing Contest! We invite all of you to show us your art skills by decorating a puzzle piece, all the puzzle pieces will be displayed in local restaurants and businesses on April 2nd for Light it up Blue day!  The students can pick up a puzzle piece paper starting on Thursday, March 26th from the table near the Autism Kaleidoscope room, and return them into the entry box by Monday, March 30th located in the same hallway.


Look for more Au-some things to come!

Band

Students in band and chorus who are participating in the District Music Festival tomorrow and Saturday, should be in the band room tomorrow morning by 8:15.

Jr. Band is rehearsing today. 

The 5th grade B Win time beginning band is having a short recital this afternoon at 2:45, in the band room.


Jazz Band will not be able to meet today because of Mr. M needing to get the band room set up for the concert.

6th grade violins are not having lessons today because of the afternoon assembly.

Jr. Band is rehearsing tomorrow, and full orchestra is Thursday morning at 8 am.

Classes should plan on getting to the big gym early, to facilitate seating for the 40th Army Band rock band performance at 1 pm. Remember, to be early is to be on time, and to be on time is to be late.


Sr. Band will be rehearsing after the assembly, and Jazz Band will be rehearsing tomorrow, instead of the Sr. Band.

Tutoring


There will be no Tutoring the week of March 23 due to Learning Showcases. 

Our last day of Tutoring for this year will be Wednesday, April 15. 

If you are interested in Summer School for your child, please check with your child’s teacher during your Learning Showcase.

News from Team USA

Team USA held their culminating event last Thursday evening.  Students made presentations to the school board and then hosted the parents for a movie premiere for the short film, "The Power of Our Actions."  Students recorded interviews with parents as they walked down the red carpet to the event.  Parents were escorted to their discussion groups and discussed kindness and how it can impact our community.  Parents and students were encouraged to post feedback and an act of kindness they plan on completing on our wall.

Pi Day


Seventh graders Isabelle, Kayleigh and Mioka celebrated Pi Day (3-14-15) over the weekend in the best way - by baking a Pi-Pie!

Band

Jr. Band will be rehearsing today, after lunch.


Tomorrow, everyone in school is reminded that the Army National Guard rock band, the Power of 10, will be presenting a performance for City School at 1 pm in the large gym, and will also be performing with other groups Wednesday evening at 7. Admission to the evening performance is free, and open to the public.
