Mac & Trees Taste Test Day

On Tuesday, March 29th, Team Imagination's wish for all students to try their Mac and Trees recipe came true.  The Abbey served Mac and Trees to all grades, and for those that chose another main dish, taste test cups were passed around to students in the cafeteria.  Many people told Imagination what they thought of this modified food item, and as soon as the findings have been tabulated, they will be reported in daily announcements.  Thank you everyone for being open minded about trying Mac and Trees!

News From Travelers
First, second and third grade Travelers learned all about what Autism is and why it is important to spread Autism Awareness. Here are some photos from the three presentations Ms. Nina did for the Travelers Team. Travelers have been working hard on decorating all the doors and Ms. Mailhotte/Mrs. Trombley’s wall to spread Autism Awareness. More photos to come once we have them finished :)

Today's snack is Watermelon

Watermelon is now the most-consumed melon in the US (followed by cantaloupe and honeydew). This cousin to cucumbers, pumpkins, and squash is thought to have originated in Egypt close to 5,000 years ago.

1. Watermelon Has More Lycopene Than Raw Tomatoes
Lycopene is a powerful carotenoid antioxidant that gives fruits and vegetables a pink or red color. It's most often associated with tomatoes, but watermelon is actually a more concentrated source.
2. Watermelon Is a Fruit and a Vegetable
Watermelon is related to cucumbers, pumpkin, and squash. It is part vegetable and part fruit (it's a sweet, seed-producing plant, after all).
3. You Can Eat Watermelon Rind and Seeds
4. It's Mostly Water
5. Some Watermelon Are Yellow

If you’re wearing blue on Friday, Kaleidoscope would like to take your picture (alone, in groups or as a class) so we can make a video to show our schools support.

Take Notice: Today is a local food day in the cafeteria.

Our food service has worked extra hard to find food items that are local and tasty at this time of year. Please give them a try today.
  • Choineire Family Farm in Highgate beef meat loaf
  • Chappelles mashed potatoes
  • Shadow Cross Farm eggs
  • Deep Roots organic parsnips
  • Deep Roots beets for the beet cake

Today's Snacks: Clementines

The clementine is a member of the Mandarin orange family. It is a cross between the tangerine and the Seville orange.  They take their name from Father Clement Rodier, a French missionary who is said to have created the hybrid in 1902. However, some people claim the clementine originated in China.

Clementines are normally seedless. However, bees sometimes cross-pollinate them with other fruit and the resulting clementines end up having some seeds.

They are usually available in stores from November to January. One clementine has about 35 calories.
