Announcements 8-29-2016

MONDAY

This content was published on daily announcements a week ago.  It may be worthwhile reviewing the information again as the beginning of school on Wednesday is fast approaching.

Upcoming Meeting:
  • 8th Grade Parent Advisory Group Meeting Thursday, September 1st, 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., St. Albans City School,  Library. All parents of incoming 8th graders are encouraged to attend.

Back to School Information:
The first day of school for students in grades 1-8 will be August 31st. This will be a half-day with A session students arriving at 7:45 a.m. and dismissed at 10:45 a.m. B session students will be arriving at 8:15 a.m. and dismissed at 11:15 a.m. There will be a Resource Fair for families in the big gym on August 31st from 7:45 - 11:15 a.m. September 1st will be a full day of school for students in grades 1-8. THERE WILL BE NO SCHOOL MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH IN OBSERVANCE OF LABOR DAY.

Bus Information:
St. Albans City School for a short period of time did not have a bus company working with us for the upcoming school year.  Terricel Transit has stepped up and will be the company that will work with us this year.  What does that mean for your child?  We are so pleased to let you know that our bus drivers have chosen to join the new company.  Dave, Stephanie, Cheryl, Pam and Tina who know our children will continue to make sure that our students are brought to and from school safely.

To make this transition, we have made a few changes to our bus schedules. First, we are running 5 buses instead of 7.  This will save money for our community, and with our new design, offer a better solution for our school. Each bus will run 3 schedules, The A Run supports a 7:45-2:45 day, The B Run supports an 8:15-3:15 day and the PreK/K Run supports an 8:15 - 2:15 day. The biggest benefit will be a much shorter bus run for our youngest students since all bus drivers will pick up our PreK and Kindergarten students. We will also have an extra adult on each bus for the Prek/K run to make sure that their safety is of high priority and the adjustment to school is as positive as it can be, with a very clear instructional component.

Our A and B session is based on where people live within the City limits.  Due to population adjustments we have had to tweak this defining line.  Families that will be affected have been notified. For more information contact Helene Biggie 527-0565 x1101

Thank you St. Albans City residents for supporting this important work at our school.

Our new and second year staff went through an orientation process Wednesday.  They were welcomed by St. Albans City School and supervisory union administrators and support staff.
