This Walking Wednesday (October 5th) Falls on National Walk to School Day
Over 3,000 schools around the country are going to participate.  We are one of those schools.  Please make a special effort to get outside and walk or bike to school on Wednesday this week.

Update on Daily Walking School Bus Routes
The daily Messenger Street Walking School Bus will continue until mid-October.  The 14th will be the last day when parent leaders from that area of the city will supervise the route.  The Walking Wednesdays scheduled throughout October and the rest of the year will continue as planned.

The daily walking school buses from the Barlow Street and Houghton Park areas will have to wait until spring when we expect to have enough leaders to manage the routes. However the Walking Wednesdays scheduled from these areas will continue throughout October and the rest of the year.

For Snacks today we have plums
  • Insects, such as honeybees are the main pollinators of plum tree flowers.  Plum crops are much reduced unless there are plenty of bees around.
  • The plum belongs to the group of stone fruit (it has single seed protected with pit). The pit can be firmly attached to the surrounding flesh (known as clingstone type) or it can be easily separated from the flesh (known as freestone type).

BREAKFAST MENU
Students may take two fruit servings with each meal. They must take at least one.

Fill out those 2016-17 Codesmyths applications!

We had a great Codesmyths Kickoff Event yesterday — 86 students came to the library!! Sadly, we only have room for 10-12 new students this year, so get those forms filled out and submitted by next week on Thursday (October 6, by the end of the day — applications received on Friday or later will not be considered)! Remember to use your best writing skills — spelling, punctuation, complete sentences, and clear thoughts all count.

If you missed the kick-off event today, you can still apply. The applications instructions and form can be found here: www.codesmyths.org/home/signing-up (you can also navigate to this by clicking "Signing Up" on the left side of the www.codesmyths.org web site — hint: look at the left side now :-).

Thank you very much. Looking forward to seeing all the old and new students alike!— Ms. Bertucci, Mr. Roland, Ms. Tagliamonte

The Whole of Kindergarten Visited Hackett's Orchard Wednesday 9-28-2016
Hackett's Orchard is a wonderful place for children to learn about growing apples and the uses apples can be put to.  Each classroom returned with a bag of apples for their classroom.  Farm-to-school apple processing projects will happen in kindergarten classrooms over the next weeks.

These are a few pictures of Mrs. Williams' and Walsh's students.

Oranges are for Snacks Today
About 25 billion oranges are grown each year in America, Florida grows the most

About 20 per cent of the total crop of oranges is sold as whole fruit; the remainder is used in preparing orange juice, extracts, and preserves.

You will have to eat 7 cups of cornflakes to get the same amount to fiber you would get from one medium orange!
