How To Cook A Turkey

Collin
Grandpa, Nene and Auntie come to our house. Mom, Dad and I go to the St. Albans store and walk to the freezer part. Mom pays $100 for a 50 pound turkey. I help buy it. We bring the turkey home and put it on a plate. Then we put sugar all over it. We want it to taste good. We cook it in the oven for 20 hours. The oven has to be very hot-one degree.
Dad takes the turkey out of the oven and cuts it up. I set the table. We eat turkey, sugar, salt and tomatoes. (I don’t eat tomatoes) We have candy for dessert. I turn on the party song and we dance.
Samuel
We go to Bob’s meat store and pick out a turkey. The turkey is in the freezer. We pay $10. The turkey is big-8 pounds. At home, Mom puts blue gloves on and cleans the turkey. She scrubs it with water to get all the bad stuff out. Mom puts the turkey in a pan and puts butter all over it. She puts it in the oven for 4 minutes at 5 degrees. She puts on a different pair of gloves to take the turkey out. Dad cuts up the turkey with a butter knife. Lily and Demitri set the table. We eat turkey, potatoes, apples, and oranges. We have chocolate cupcakes for dessert. Ibrahim and I clean up. Kathleen is only two so she plays.
Celia
My whole family gets in our van and we go to an open field. We see turkeys, maybe ten turkeys. We all go because it would be hard to catch a turkey with just one person. I pick a big, fat juicy one-about one pound. I sit in the back of the van with the turkey.We put a collar and a leash on the turkey and attach the leash to the seat. We don’t want the turkey moving around! When we get home we clean the turkey with water. We don’t use soap because then it would be covered in bubbles! We put the turkey on a big plate and put it in the oven.We cook the turkey at one degree for two minutes. When the turkey is done, we put a delicious sauce all over it. We put the delicious sauce on last so it doesn’t burn.
We don’t cut the turkey until everyone is there. Nona, Opa, Mammie, Poppy, KK and Randy come to our house. Momma cuts the turkey up. Me, Daddy and Ada set the table. Josie plays.
We have turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and macaroni and cheese. (Nona makes the best macaroni and cheese-that is my favorite.) We have cupcakes for dessert.
Jaylen
We go to Travis and Gale’s house. Gale finds a turkey in the back yard. Travis shoots it. Travis cleans it by putting the turkey in the shower until it is
night.They check on the turkey. They use a sponge with soap to clean it. The turkey is tannish-red.
We have a big turkey-42 pounds. We put the turkey on a big tray. We put gravy and marshmallow dressing on the turkey. The oven is hot- 52 degrees. We cook it a long time, about 43 hours.
We eat turkey, mashed potatoes, cheese balls, cheddar chips, and pumpkin soup. I stir the soup and set the table. Before we eat, we pray. We say that we like what we are going to eat. For dessert we have chocolate cream cake pie. After we eat we dance and then watch cartoons.
Ava
Mimi visits us. Mom, Dad, Mimi and I drive in the car to the turkey store. We pick out a big size turkey, about 6 pounds. We pay 40 cents for the turkey. We put the turkey in a bag, put it in the car and drive away. We take the turkey out of the bag and put it in the sink. We scrub it with a washcloth and put it on a towel to make sure the turkey stays clean. We put the turkey in a pan and pour hot sauce all over it. We cook it for 6 minutes at 10 degrees.The bell rings when it is done.
I set the table. We eat turkey, bacon, corn, rice and popcorn. For dessert we have cake. I clean up. After we eat, we go to bed.
Elijah
Grandma comes to our house for Thanksgiving. We go to Hannafords to buy a turkey. They have lobsters in a tank. The turkey is 10 pounds and it cost $6. We clean it. We wash it with water.We put the turkey in a pan on top of the stove. We add sugar. We boil the turkey for 10 hours. Jasmine sets the table. We know when the turkey is done because Mom calls us for supper. We eat turkey, ham, rice, bananas and chicken. We do not eat veggies. For dessert, Grandma makes chocolate chip cookies. Jasmine and Miguel clean up.
Jacoby
My family eats at home. My whole family is there. Poppa gets the turkey because he is a hunter. He goes to the woods and picks a fat turkey. He brings the turkey to my house and puts it in our pool.The turkey floats around until it is clean. We take it out of the pool and hose it down to make sure all the feathers are off. We put the turkey in a pan. The turkey weighs 7 pounds. We put hot sauce on the turkey and add pepper. The oven has to be hot- 10 degrees. We cook the turkey for 100 minutes.
Nana sets the table. We eat turkey, pizza, lettuce and pickles. Mom makes the sweet carrots. Dad bakes a chocolate cake for dessert. My dad loves peanut butter. We clean up and then we all go outside to play.

Grammie comes to my house. We go to the turkey farm. I pick the boss of the group. The boss has a big red dot on top of his head. The queen has a yellow dot and the helpers have blue. Leila puts our turkey in a bag and puts it to sleep. The turkey is asleep so his claws stay in.
She puts the turkey in the back seat with me in case he wakes up. If he wakes up, I can calm him down. I am good at that. We bring the turkey home and put him in the sink. We scrub him clean with soap before he wakes up. Dad bops him on the head and he becomes a regular turkey. We don’t hurt the turkey-turkeys are very sensitive. We take the feathers and recycle them. You can use turkey feathers for a bed. Dad cooks the turkey on the grill. Dad puts yummy sauce like ketchup all over the turkey and adds cheese. Dad cooks it for three and a half hours. You have to let it cool for 10 minutes. Dad brings the turkey in and Mom cuts up the turkey. Me and Grammie set the table.
We eat turkey, chicken nuggets, orange tomatoes from our garden, ketchup, apples, oranges and squash soup. Grammie makes the squash soup. We roast marshmallows outside in the fire pit. The marshmallows go on top of our pie. We have marshmallow pie for dessert. Dad loves bananas with crickets on top. After we celebrate by watching fireworks.
Levi
Grandma comes to our house. We go to the food section of WalMart and buy an 8 pound turkey. The turkey costs $6. We go home and clean the turkey in the sink with water. Then the turkey gets put in a pan and you add salt. You have to cook the turkey in a really hot oven, burning hot- 6 degrees. We cook the turkey for one hour. Mom takes the turkey out. Dad gets Grandma and we all sit at the table. We eat turkey, cheese quesadillas, apples, celery and we drink apple juice. We have apple and blueberry pie for dessert. Mom and Dad clean up. Dakota, me and Grandma play games. I love Dominoes.
Lilah
We go to Nana and Papa’s house. They live near a forest. Papa hunts deer and turkey. Papa goes to the forest and brings back a big turkey, 10 pounds. Papa puts the turkey in the sink to clean it. He uses a baby wipe and rubs it all over until it is clean. Mom puts the turkey in a pan. She puts salt on the turkey. She cooks the turkey in a hot oven- about 100 degrees. She cooks the turkey a long time- 3 minutes. Mom takes the turkey out of the oven with gloves. Dad cuts the turkey with a knife. We eat turkey, peas and chips. Nana makes cupcakes for dessert. The cupcakes look like a turkey and she puts candy corn on the back of the turkey cupcake. Everyone is special in my family. 
Olivia
Nana and Papa eat with my whole family. Dad buys the turkey at the food store. You go to the left side in front of the door. Go to the turkey shelf. Dad picks a big turkey about 10 pounds. Dad puts the turkey in the bathroom sink. You have to have clean hands. You turn the turkey, stop, turn, stop, and turn until the turkey is clean. We put the turkey in a big huge tin pot. We put salt and apple sugar on the turkey. The pot goes into the oven. The oven has to be so hot- 2,000 degrees. The timer goes off and we check the turkey. If it is cold, we put it back in for 30 minutes. Dad takes out the turkey and cuts it up.
We eat turkey, ham, macaroni and cheese, pizza, apples and vegetables. I don’t like vegetables. Dad loves green beans. We have halloween candy for dessert.
Alexis
Meme, Grandma Marsha and Pepe come to our house. Momma goes to the grocery store. At the back of the store you will see turkeys. Momma brings the turkey home. Momma puts it on the counter. Daddy cleans the turkey. He uses water to clean it.Then he puts the turkey on a big black tray. Momma puts butter on top of the turkey. The turkey goes in the oven at 5 degrees. You cook the turkey for 6 days. Daddy takes the turkey out of the oven. When the turkey cools down, Momma cuts it with a sharp knife and fork. Daddy sets the table.
We have turkey, chicken, salad, carrots, grapes and lettuce. We buy a raspberry lemon cake at the bakery for dessert. We all clean together. Pepe reads to us and then they go home.
Autumn
My Uncle Ryan, Neenee, Papa and my family celebrate Thanksgiving. Momma buys the turkey at Price Chopper. The turkey is 10 pounds and costs ten dollars. Momma takes the turkey home and cleans it with water and soap. She uses a scrub brush and scrubs the turkey until it is clean. The turkey is put in a pan. You add lots of seasonings like garlic outside and inside the turkey. Put tinfoil over the turkey and put it in a hot oven- 10 degrees. Cook the turkey for 10 hours. Momma takes it out of the oven with red oven mitts. (they have pretty red decorations on them) Dad cuts the turkey with a big knife. I help set the table. We eat turkey, stuffing, oranges, macaroni and cheese and green beans. (Yum, my favorite. I love the beans inside.) We have strawberry ice cream and blueberry pie for dessert. Before we eat we bow our heads and fold our hands and thank God for all the food we have. Momma and Uncle Ryan clean. We sit and talk after we eat.
Lillian
My Mom buys our turkey at WalMart. She buys a small turkey- 3 pounds. I put the turkey in the sink. I
take a napkin and clean the turkey. We check for anything that doesn’t look good. We put the turkey in a pan and put the pan in a hot oven- 5 degrees. We cook it for 3 minutes. When the turkey is crispy it is done. Mom puts the turkey on a plate and cuts it in squares with a knife. Nana sets the table. We eat turkey, mashed potatoes, ham, broccoli and carrots. Dad makes chocolate chip cookies for dessert. I help Mom, Dad and Nana clean up. After we eat, we all watch Monsters Inc.
