Veterans Day Schedule from Team USA

Hello Everyone at St. Albans City School,

The Veterans Day event is a special event that pulls our community together.  We have a few events that will be available to our entire community. A veteran's breakfast will be on 11/08.  The parade and ceremony will take place on 11/11. On behalf of the veterans, we thank you for your support on making this a special day.  Below are the details for what we have at this point.

Action Needed before the event
  • Order your bag lunches with the Abbey before 11/7. 11/11 will be a community day.
  • Practice God Bless America - Near the end of the ceremony, the entire crowd will sing God Bless America, led by Ms. Cameron-Muscente and Ms. Hartman. Please practice it. Video Link It would be appropriate to wave the flags during the song.
11/08 Veterans Breakfast - 8:00-10:15

  • All veterans are invited for a breakfast in the library. Team USA students will be on hand to serve food and share some speeches.
  • Please invite any veterans you may know.

  • Flags will be distributed to all learning communities next week. Please instruct the students in flag etiquette: Do not let the flags touch the ground.
  • When the pledge is said and the Star Spangled Banner is played, please remove hats and put hand on heart. The pledge will be led by City School 1st graders.

Parade
  • Float Members - Should meet at the Team USA area at 9:00. Walking to BFA
  • Once at the parade, please put young students in the front. 6th, 7th and 8th graders will be behind all the others.
  • There will be a painted, designated area for City School. Team USA students will help direct you to the correct area.
  • After the parade passes, (we will not wait for BFA students to pass) we will move up to the designated area by the monument. See the map below for location of SACS. Younger grades should be in the front.

Lunches
We anticipate everyone will have bag lunches on that day, so we can have a big school picnic upon our return. (If it is warm enough, we could all meet on the play area with music etc!)

Misc.
  • Pre-K thru 3 will leave after the parade. Buses will be available.
  • The event will be recorded by a drone!
  • At the conclusion, we will all walk back and eat our bag lunches.

Thank you for your help in this event. This is an event that puts City School on the map! Proudly, City School is the only school that sends all students!!

Other Info: This event is billed as the largest Veterans Day celebration in the State. It will involve over 2,300 students. The Veterans have worked hard to make this a special event and truly enjoy seeing the park filled with kids and community members. Please encourage students who are related to, or know, veterans to invite them to the event. Parents should be encouraged to attend, and could even walk up with us. Please make sure you dress for the weather.

If you have any questions, please reach out to any Team USA teacher.
