Announcements 12-5-11

Tutoring and Open Doors

This is a reminder that there will be no after school tutoring next week, the week of Dec. 5, because of Learning Showcases. Students should take their regular buses home.

All Open Doors programs are running this week except for Friday as there is no school.

Composting

SACS was proud to show off our composting program this Friday afternoon to the Principal and Facilities Manager of Georgia Elementary and Middle School. They came in and spent time observing the success of our composting program. They are ready to begin their own composting program this week. Way to go green, GEMS!

News from the Library-Virtual Field Trips

Looking for a great field trip to supplement your classroom

instruction? Can't take all of your students to the Smithsonian in person? You can visit museums, art galleries, and even farms via Polycom Virtual Field trips. The Polycom is located in the library and looks like a big TV with one exception: you can interact with people at the site you are visiting! Ask questions and get answers in real time, face-to-face. Check cilc.
org for available programs, and call Mrs. Wade or Ms. Lang to schedule a trip. Group sizes are limited, but somewhat flexible. Next week the Voyagers will be attending medical school to learn about bones, and French students will visit the Cleveland Museum of Art for an exhibit of paintings by French Impressionists. Where will SACS go next? The answer is up to you! Bon voyage!

Students helping students

Dear Mr. Clark and 6th Grade Class,
Thank you for coming in to our classroom and teaching us how to use Google Docs. We know it took time away from your day to come and help us. Because of your help we now know how to make a new document and share documents. Thank you for bringing in your 6th grade class, it really helped us to have one on one help. We really appreciated it. We are happy that we can get on Google Docs because of your help!

From,
Mrs. DiMercurio's 4th and 5th Grade Class

Festival of Trees

SACS 7/8 students made ornaments to decorate a tree at the Festival of Trees at City Hall. The tree is pictured above. The decorated trees will be auctioned on Friday night to benefit Laurie's House, a safe shelter for domestic abuse victims, operated by Voices Against Violence of St. Albans; and the St Albans Society for the Performing Arts.
They will be on display until Sunday December 4th.

News from Music Class

The best singing Kindergarten class awards for the week of November 28 go to Mrs. Edelstein's ( 6 stars) and Ms. Laidman's class ( 6 stars). Because the classes earned 6 stars for the week, each student also receives a City Card. Great Job!!!!
