Announcements 4-29-13

Welcome Back!

SACS is a Green Ribbon School!

At SACS, we know we have so much to be proud of and now the entire nation knows too! SACS has been named a "Green Ribbon School" by the US Department of Education. We were awarded the Green Ribbon in large part because of our amazing students who compost food waste every day, monitor and conserve energy, and lead and participate in our "Green Up" days.  Go Raiders!

Railroad Crossing Closure

The No. Elm St. railroad crossing is now closed to all vehicle traffic for repairs.  A Railroad representative informed us the crossing will be closed through June and that there will be an adult to cross students who walk to and from school over the tracks. The impact to busing will be minimal.

Band

Thank you to the Sr. Band for a great parade for the Vermont Maple Festival on Sunday.

5th and 6th grade band lessons are happening today, and Jr. Band for 5th and 6th is tomorrow.

There will be no  beginning string lessons after school today. Lessons will be on Wednesday. Karson will also not be having a lesson this afternoon.

World Fit Walking Challenge

The World Fit Walking 40 day competition begins Today (Monday April 29th) and goes for 40 days (June 7th).  About 130 4th/6th and 180 K-3rd graders will be participating.  The goal is to walk 1-2 miles a day at school and complete as many miles as possible during the time period.  Children will be able to compare their miles with other kids/classrooms/schools.  Family and friends can also participate and share miles walked with specific registered kids (in 4th-6th grade).  Other forms of exercise can count towards walking miles.  Performance results will be posted in daily announcements each week.

To donate miles to a child, or to simply keep track of your own walking/exercising efforts, register as a buddy at
