Announcements 9-1-15

News from Renaissance

After a summer of sun and moisture, the St. Albans City School rain garden areas were covered in weeds. On Friday the 28th, Renaissance started the big task of ripping up grass and other undesirable plants so that the recently established wetland plants can thrive instead. Students were reminded of the importance of rain gardens for preventing nutrient-rich runoff from parking lots and roofs from entering the drainage system into Lake Champlain.  As a school, we want to minimize our negative impact on lake water quality.

String lessons will be starting next week.

Four Winds Volunteers Needed

SACS is in need of parent volunteers to assist with the Four Winds Science program for grades K-6.  We meet every other month and learn cool things about our natural world from the amazing people at Four Winds Nature Institute.

This year the theme is ECOSYSTEMS.  Our first meeting is Tuesday, September 8th, 830am-1030am at St Albans Town School (SACS and SATEC share tuition).  We will learn the content and then you coordinate a time to present the content (about 45min) to your child's class.  All materials are provided and there is scripted content for those of us who are a tad shy.  The kids LOVE this program!!!  This is an excellent way to volunteer at school while accommodating your schedule.  If you are interested, but cannot make the 9/08 meeting, please contact me.  smithh@fcsuvt.org
Please spread the word about this wonderful science enrichment.
