Announcements 9-29-2015

Daily Announcements   Tuesday September 28th, 2015

7/8 Practice 3:30-5:00 pm
Boys 5/6  Practice 5:00 to 6:30 pm

Lessons for Jr. Band flute, drum, trumpet, sax, bass, and trombone are starting today -Tuesday. Beginning clarinets will be on Wednesday.  Lesson times are taped to walls in the upstairs hallways. 

Picture Days

Kindergarten makes Farm to School connection with Apples
Last week Kindergarten took a field trip to Hackett's Orchard.  They picked apples and saw how they are cleaned and processed for sale.  The students and staff returned to St. Albans City School with apples that they are now processing into tasty treats.

On Monday morning (Sept 28th, 2015) Mrs. Walsh's students were guided through the process of making applesauce in Mrs. Lamb's Family and Consumer Science room by Mrs. Walsh, Mrs. Lamb and Farm to School Coordinator, Mrs. Smith.


Voyagers Root Crop Farm to School and Family and Consumer Science Project

For three years now, the Voyagers students have planted and harvested their own potatoes. The harvested potatoes are washed, chopped up and coated with olive oil and a little salt and garlic powder.  They are then baked and served to students and staff in the learning community. Instruction provided by Mrs. Lamb and Mrs. Smith.

The teachers read Eric Carle's Little Cloud, and completed some activities involving clouds.  The "cloud in a jar" activity involves using water/shaving cream on top and a dropper with blue food coloring going through the clouds.
