Voyagers Harvested Potatoes
Voyagers are digging into a new year and hitting the gardens. We unearthed about 30 pounds of potatoes (On Wednesday)!
It is time to harvest!
Learning communities with planted garden spaces should think about harvesting their produce soon and processing it into something for students to taste. Please contact Heather Smith if you want her help. These are just a few of the plants and areas with at least some produce that is ready to harvest.
Next week (September 14th) we begin Walking Wednesdays
There will be a daily walking school bus from the Messenger Street area (B Session 7:25 at Fiddlehead Dental to 8:00 AM St. Albans City School). It will begin on Monday the 12th and go through October, weather depending.
Each year the Voyagers wash and cut our harvested potatoes into chunks and then bake them with a coating of olive oil, salt and garlic powder. They always taste wonderful and the Voyagers are looking forward to that phase of our yearly gardening experience.

Support St. Albans City School with "Hannaford Helps Schools!"
Did you know you can help our school earn money for valuable resources just by doing your grocery shopping??
How does Hannaford Helps Schools work?
For every 4 qualifying Hannaford Helps Schools items that a customer buys at Hannaford, they will receive a printout for 3 school dollars at the register. This means that:
For every 4 qualifying Hannaford Helps Schools items that a customer buys at Hannaford, they will receive a printout for 3 school dollars at the register. This means that:
- 4 products purchased = 3 school dollars
- 8 products purchased = 6 school dollars
- 12 products purchased = 9 school dollars
Note: All products must be purchased in a single transaction.
Customers just need to then take the school dollars printout to the Hannaford Helps Schools collection tower at the front of the St. Albans store and insert it into OUR school's slot. (Students can also bring the printout to their homeroom teacher and we'll be sure to get them turned in!)
This year, the program runs from Aug. 28 - Dec. 3, 2016.
Click this link for the full participating product list - use this while making your grocery shopping list. Hannaford is excited to offer over 1,600 products in the program this year and to make it easy, they've labeled the products with red schoolhouse tags in stores. You can also learn more about the program at this link.
Let's make this our best earning year! Thanks for your support!

There will be a daily walking school bus from the Messenger Street area (B Session 7:25 at Fiddlehead Dental to 8:00 AM St. Albans City School). It will begin on Monday the 12th and go through October, weather depending.
Efforts are underway to establish a daily walking school bus from the Barlow Street area (A-Session 6:55 at the Community Center to 7:30 St. Albans City School). More parent volunteers are needed to make this happen. Contact Mitch Craib at craibm@fcsuvt.org if you can help. Parents you would be responsible for leading on your route only one day per week unless you were ready to do more.
Another Walking School Bus is being considered from the Houghton Park area (A-Session 7:00 AM at Russell/Weldon to 7:00 St. Albans City School). More parent volunteers are needed to make this happen. Contact Mitch Craib at craibm@fcsuvt.org if you can help.
