Box Tops Collection Update!
WOW, City School!  You have amazed us again!  In Week 2, we've already surpassed the second collection goal we set.  So, we're setting the bar even higher.  Can our school collect more than 7,000 Box Tops for Education by February 18th?!  The Open Doors Money Makers think we can!

Special thanks this week to ALL learning communities, because they have all contributed.   Special recognition to the Voyagers, Investigators, Incredibles, and Imagination for especially big numbers this week!  Keep up the good work, everyone!

Math with Team Incredibles 1-29-2016
Students in Ms. Aliquo's math class used themselves as subjects for a lesson on fractions. Pairs of students had to generate fractions such as the number of girls in the room relative to the total number of students 8/15, or the number of girls with brown hair relative to the number of girls etc. It was clearly a good way to get their minds in gear while learning an important math concept.

Hello from the nurses office!
We wanted to remind everyone that winter is a heightened time for cold and flu illnesses. Nearly 60 million school days are lost each year in the USA due to colds or the influenza virus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Infections spread in schools so easily because students are in close contact and share supplies and equipment.

To help minimize the spread of cold and flu viruses, here are some great tips to keep in mind:
  • Practice good hand washing, often.
  • If you are sick, stay home to minimize the exposure to others.
  • Practice proper coughing, sneezing, and nose-blowing techniques.
  • Be sure to eat lots of healthy foods and stay hydrated. "

Thanks,
Morgan

Discovery Snow Scavenger Hunt
On Monday, January 25th, Discovery 4th and 5th graders competed in a Snow Scavenger Hunt. We hunted for colored ice cubes in the snow. This was a great team building activity. We had so much fun! (Note: If you plan on trying this yourself, we recommend using a smaller area. We had a hard time finding all the ice cubes.)
