GRAPES: Production of grape is extremely large, well developed and popular business worldwide. Around 25 million acres of land on the planet are covered with vineyards. 72 million tons of grapes are produced each year. 71% of produced grapes are used in the manufacture of wines, 27% are sold as fresh fruit and 2% are turned into raisins.

Grapes are used in treatment of asthma, cardiac diseases (grapes can prevent heart attack), constipation, headache, renal diseases and fatigue.

LUNCH

EXPECTED RECESS WEATHER

It will be really cold outside and the wind will exacerbate that situation. Only go outside if you have a good hat, gloves, a warm coat and snow pants (if you want to snow tube).

The snow tubes will be available.  Leave them stacked at the top of the hill when you are done and keep them off pavement and rocks.  The bottom of the snow tubes will only remain slippery if we can keep them off rough surfaces.  Thank you.

The pictures below were taken on Tuesday, December 12th as students sorted the food and transported it to the old dollar store at the Hannaford Shopping complex. Assistance with Operation Happiness is a wonderful public service project that team Renaissance takes on every year.

EXPLORERS SOAP MAKING
Ms. Lavoie's students heated up soap, added mint essence and mint leaves, and then let the soap solidify in molds. The process was interesting and the smell of mint intense. 12-12-2017

RAIDER
Raider showed up in the Explorers classroom this morning 12-12-2017.  For those of you who don't know, Raider came to St. Albans City School shortly after our school decided to eliminate the use of straws in our cafeteria. Straws, and other forms of plastic waste, are finding our way into the ocean where they are killing sea life like penguins. The cafeteria used the money saved that first year of straw elimination to make it possible for Raider to come and stay at City School. Raider moves around the school and can be found in odd places over the course of the school year.

VISITOR TO THE LIBRARY
