The so-called "banana tree" is not a tree at all. In fact, it is the world's largest herb.

Walmart sells more bananas than any other item.

Banana fibers can be used to purify water.

There are more trade restrictions on bananas than on AK-47s.

PICTURES AND REPORTS

ADVENTURERS
Each year kindergarteners get to conduct an investigation of owl pellet content through dissection. Using oversized tooth picks and tweezers the children unwrap and pull apart their own owl pellet. They then try to match the bones and teeth they find in their pellet with drawings of the skeletal structures of life forms owls typically prey on. The kids really get into the task.

IMAGINATION
Ms. Dionne's and Sturgis's students went outside to decorate an evergreen tree with edible holiday treats for birds and squirrels. They had just finished reading a beautiful book in which

"a boy recounts his family's annual Christmas Eve outing to a nearby wood, where they decorate a special tree (``It has been our tree forever and ever'') with fruit, seeds and strings of popcorn for the animals."

Night Tree. Eve Bunting, Author, Ted Rand, Illustrator. Harcourt Children's Books.     Reference: https://www.publishersweekly.com/978-0-15-257425-3

The book inspired the teachers and students to do the same thing here on school property.

NAVIGATORS
Students sang holiday songs in the library on Wednesday. Dozens of family members were able to attend.  It was a short and joyful celebration of the season with all the kids doing a great job. 12-20-2017
