Carrots were first grown in Afghanistan
While carrots are a common vegetable throughout the world, the first cultivated carrot in recorded history is thought to have come from the area around Afghanistan around 900 AD. Soon, this tasty veg spread to the surrounding areas and by the 1000s, it was in the Middle East and North Africa. From there it traveled to Spain, and by the 1300s it was popping up in Northern European gardens and in various dishes in China. Reference | ||

PICTURES AND REPORTS
FRANKLIN COUNTY ART SHOW
There was great Franklin County attendance at the art show opening on Tuesday evening, 5-15-2018. Ms. Tagliamonte took pictures of some of the artwork and the St. Albans City School students who attended. If you get a chance, go and check out the show before it closes on May 20th. LINK TO 38 PICTURES WALKING WEDNESDAY RESULTS 207 students and 20 adults walked and biked into school on Wednesday. This volume of people is normal for beautiful weather in May. Clear skies and temperatures in the 50s made for a pleasant walk and bike to school. LINK TO 37 PICTURES Team Triumph once again had the highest "Walking Wednesday" participation rate with 33 students. Way to go Triumph! The Incredibles, our usual champions of the past, were not far behind with 29 students.
