EVENTS OR NOTICES

WALKING CONTEST BETWEEN
LEARNING COMMUNITIES STARTS TODAY!

It will run for four weeks from May 7th through June 1st.

There are two prizes of a one-hour pool party at the St. Albans Recreation Pool next to our school

1. Be the learning community with the most number of laps completed on the walking path (1-hour pool party).

2. Be the learning community with the highest number of walkers/bikers tallied on Walking Wednesdays over that time period (1-hour pool party).

GUIDELINES
All laps must be completed on the ½ mile gravel walking path.  Laps indoors around the gyms or beyond the school campus on field trips will not count! Tally sheets will be left on clipboards on a table next to the recess shed.

The success of this contest depends on the honesty of all participants. Only record the actual amount of laps you completed. Thank you.

On SBAC testing days all laps around the walking path count double towards the contest.

Tally sheets will be analyzed each Monday and updates on the contest scores will be provided each Tuesday in our announcements.

Tech Reminders for Getting Ready for SBAC:

Check to make sure the SBAC app is on your Chromebook

Make sure your Chromebook is plugged in and charging overnight
Thank you.

BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY IS MAY 9TH
Get your bike out. Pump up the tires. Find your helmet or get one from Mrs. Wade in the Library.  Then bike into school on Wednesday.

Bikers will receive a snap-on reflective wrist band  LINK TO 8-SECOND-LONG VIDEO

THE GOAL IS MORE THAN 70 BIKES
RIDDEN HERE ON WEDNESDAY!

BIKING GUIDELINES
It is biking season again. Here are some basic biking safety guidelines well worth following:

PICTURES AND REPORTS

HELMETS PROVIDED BY LOCAL MOTION
This year we are really fortunate to have received a donation of used bicycle helmets from the same organization that lends us the bike trailer each year - Local Motion. Teachers have observed quite a few students riding to school without a helmet. If you are worried about the expense, you intend to wear one and don't have one already, you can pick up a helmet from Mrs. Wade in the library.  Some helmets will also be available at the front entrance of the school on next Wednesday's Bike to School day.

You may disagree, but studies show that wearing a helmet while biking is a good way to protect your life.

Here is a sample of a few of the cool helmets available

EXPLORERS MOVEMENT
While searching for a teacher working in Explorers, Mr. Mitch came across Ms. Lavoie's students in the middle of a movement break.  This video shows her students dancing to "What does the fox say?"  If you have time (3.5 minutes), then check it out.  LINK TO VIDEO

FITNESS TEAM COMPETITION NEWS
Here is a short video sent by Ms. Jarvis during the Fitness Team Competition. It shows the students reaching 775 curl-ups with two city school students persevering among the final three students. These two managed to complete at least 1000 curl-ups each.  Wow!  LINK TO 30 second-long VIDEO

Here is another achievement of note: One of our female students finished the mile competition in the very fast time of 5:44. Way to go.  We don't have a picture of her running in this competition but we do have a picture of her from the cross country season.

If there are any other fitness competition stories that should be told, then send them to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org

SACS MARCHING BAND 5-2-2018
The St. Albans City School Marching Band was rained out of the Vermont Maple Festival parade last weekend. After practicing and preparing, Frank Mehaffey decided that the band would do their own parade. The band marched Wednesday afternoon down Finn Ave. and into the Fourwinds Apartments on North Elm St. and around the City School.  LINK TO 61 PICTURES
