PICTURES AND REPORTS
BATTLE BOTS COMPETITION AT TEAM DISCOVERY Ms. Borst worked with 6th graders to produce an array of battle bots. These were placed into a competition that was watched by the entire community on a Fun Friday where the toughest bot eventually won. Two to three bots were placed in an enclosed area where they fought until beaten. Each bot contained a little lego person. If this person was knocked out of his/her seat that bot lost. If any bot had a piece knocked off of it, or was tipped over and could not get back up, or was pinned for at least 10 seconds they lost. It was a fairly quick contest that generated a lot of spectator and participant interest. LINK TO 35 PICTURES NORTHWEST TECHNICAL CENTER VISIT Students and staff from the tech center at BFA talked with 8th graders at St. Albans City Schoo about what the tech school has to offer. Current high school tech students talked about their experiences in the culinary, automotive, video, and building trades programs, among others. St. Albans City School students had a chance to listent and ask questions. TRIUMPH Team triumph was playing Omnicom in the big gym when some 5th-grade boys made themselves mascots out of the equipment.
KINDERGARTEN: OWL VISIT 4-5-2019
Several owls were brought to St. Albans City School to help provide natural science education for our kindergarteners. The owls had been hit by cars, probably when flying low across a road at night in search of pray. None will fly normally again and are now traveling around to schools with their handler for educational purposes. Wherever the owl man came, students could get close to the owls and they could examine the feathers and wing systems that allow owls to fly so silently. Kindergarten teachers kindly supplied these photos.
A THANK YOU FROM Ms. ALENE SPIEKERMANN Ms. Spiekermann taught at St. Albans City School for 37 years, most recently as a member of the Explorers team before retiring three years ago. She is remembered by many and much respected. Ms. Spiekermann is recovering from a stroke that happend in January. The staff at SACS, and others here in St. Albans, raised money through a bake sale this winter to assist Ms. Spiekermann in her recovery. Her message and pictures are a thank you to everyone who helped out. |
