Parents and Families of 8th Graders

On Friday, May 24th, 2019, your eighth grader will be taking a bus to BFA for Move Up Day. This is an annual event to introduce eighth graders to the expectations associated with their upcoming ninth grade year. This is always an exciting day. BFA staff and students will be on hand to guide the eighth-grade students through the orientation program. Additionally, it is an opportunity to meet fellow eighth graders from the other sending schools.

Lunch will be provided by BFA. Your eighth-grader will be dismissed from BFA at 2:00 P.M. and will be walking home from there.  If you choose to do so, you may pick your child up at BFA at that time. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact your eighth-grade learning community or contact school counselor, Allison Goldsmith, at agoldsmith@maplerun.org or 527-0565 ext. 3874.

  • Facilitation and leadership skills
  • Public speaking
  • How to be an ally
Registration is open now through the end of May.  Registration is limited to 20 students.

READING READY ASSESSMENTS
Each year our kindergarteners are assessed for reading readiness in the Fall and again in the Spring. We are fortunate that UVM assists us with this process, especially in our busy Springtime. The university sends out speech and language student specialists to quickly evaluate our children over the course of a day. Their work is closely supervised by Ms. Debari and Ms. Howard. Several of our older students help make the day go smoothly by supervising the waiting/coloring area and walking students to and from their classrooms for the assessment process.  LINK TO 15 PICTURES.

HOPE (HANDS ON PRACTICAL EDUCATION) TEAM CELEBRATED PROJECTS
A breakfast was held Friday morning in the HOPE classroom for the Cutting Edge Designs team. The team of students has been working all school year on an assortment of projects. The students celebrated the end of the maple season with a breakfast which included french toast served with the maple syrup they produced. The students discussed the projects that still need completion before the end of the school year.

SOFTBALL GAME PICTURES
Our softball team played Fairfax on Thursday afternoon. Ms. Beck took some pictures and shared them with us.  LINK TO 15 PICTURES

BRIDGES POKEMON PARTY

Ms. Benedict promised students in her classroom a Pokemon party if they could accumulate enough plastic bears in a jar to reach the top. Students could add a bear to the jar every time they met one of the criteria listed below.

Students got to watch a short Pokemon video and select five Pokemon cards from a pack. There was a lot of excitement around the whole event.

WIND INSTRUMENT PRACTICE
Students were photographed practicing with Mr. Kelly on Thursday afternoon 5-9-2019.  LINK TO 11 PICTURES

MORE KINDERGARTEN TRICYCLE RIDING PICTURES
Ms. Asato-Ditch submitted a new batch of tricycle pictures for the announcements. The helmets, the kids are seen wearing to keep them safe on the concrete surface, came from Local Motion. Local Motion is the company that loans us its bike-share trailer with us each year.  LINK TO 18 PICTURES.
