EVENTS AND NOTICES

8th GRADE PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR BOOK FAIR

We are looking for parents of 8th graders who would like to volunteer with the book fair.  It is held on September 26th from 7:30am until 7:00pm. All proceeds go to benefit the 8th-grade class trip.  Please contact Margaux Vaillancourt @ mvaillancourt@maplerun.org.  Thank you!

NAMES IN CLOTHING AND GEAR

Just a Friendly Reminder

Family members, please label students backpacks, lunch boxes and coats with their names. This helps school staff members return any lost items to their owner.

Thank you

THE ONLY SEPTEMBER WALKING WEDNESDAY WILL BE ON THE 11th
Normally, Walking Wednesdays are on the first Wednesday of the month. Because that would be awkward at the beginning of school year, we have pushed the date back a week to September 11th. In October we will have Walking Wednesdays every Wednesday.

COMPLETED PAPERWORK NEEDED
Families, your child should have returned home with a folder of papers to fill out and return to the school. The completed forms are vital to the function of the school.  Please send them in to your student's teacher as quickly as possible.
  • Verification Form: This form asks for essential contact information in case we need to reach you during the school day.
  • Health Form: Our nurses need information about health issues, medications, and vaccinations.
  • Technology Use Form: We need to know that you and your student agree to all the guidelines listed for the use of technology in the school (computers etc.).
  • Free and Reduced Meal Form: This form should be filled out by every family regardless of need. It is the way the school qualifies to receive free breakfasts, snacks, lunches, and after school meals. Schools that have a substantial portion of their students who qualify for free and reduced-cost meals can receive money for free summer meals for those 18 and under. These schools also get support for farm to school programs. In summary, your participation ensures that every child has access to healthy food. Thank you.

WALKING SCHOOL BUS PROGRAM IS EXPANDING WITH STUDENT LEADERS
There are some missing applications that need to be turned in immediately this Friday morning. Take them to Mr. Craib's desk in the Makerspace.

Selection of the student leaders will take place on Friday the 6th. The selected leaders will gather in the library on Monday, September 9th at 7:45 AM for training. Leaders will start their jobs on Tuesday the 10th.

RENAISSANCE NEEDS YOUR COMPOST!
Renaissance is ready to start taking breakfast and snack compost from your classrooms. Please bring it to the Renaissance community and dump it into the buckets at the end of the hall by 2:00 pm each day. Renaissance will compost the food waste to make nutrient-rich soil for the school gardens.

Please make sure there is no dairy or trash in the compost.

Thank you!

Y AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM COMING TO ST. ALBANS CITY SCHOOL
The Y has decided there is enough interest to support an afterschool program at St. Albans City School.

Info about the Program:
The hours children spend outside of the classroom are critical to their growth and development. The Y is committed to providing children with a safe, enriching and fun environment during out-of-school time, where we foster positive physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth. Our curriculum complements the school day with extended learning opportunities that include sports, outdoor play, the arts, skill-building clubs, STEM, literacy and more. Each Y School Age program is available to all children in grades K-6. Our full-week options and hours are designed to meet the childcare needs of working families. Our flexible enrollment schedule encourages children to participate who may need enrichment, exercise or a supervised environment with positive adult role models just a few days each week.
The program runs from dismissal until 6pm daily, Monday- Friday

Afterschool Rates:
1 day $35
2 days $59
3 days $71
4 days $82
5 days $92

Additional After-School Opportunities:
St Albans Rec Dept: Here are the links for the Afterschool program and Vacation/ Inservice Camps.  The Rec Dept will be working on a first come first serve basis.

ANOTHER SET OF TWINS
Mr. Mello and Mr. Brown work together in the same Bridges learning community. They came to school dressed alike - totally unplanned. Are there other dress-alike twins out there? Students or teachers, or students and teachers?
