Congratulations to Rosie’s Girls for being awarded the 2014 Educational Alliance Grant from ExxonMobil. This grant is to encourage the next generation to pursue studies and careers in math and science.
Rosie’s Girls St. Albans would like to thank ExxonMobil for their generous $500 grant to support our program. Rosie's Girls is a 3-week summer day camp that helps build strong, confident girls through exploration of the skilled trades. Girls entering 6, 7 and 8th grades get hands-on instruction in STEM-related activities, carpentry, welding and other traditionally male dominated fields. They also participate in creative arts, team building activities, swimming and self-defense. It's a safe, supportive, girl-centered environment that emphasizes leadership, teamwork and healthy body image - with tons of fun woven in! In past years, girls have built a picnic table, created a sculpture by welding, programmed a robot, flew a plane and learned about being an EMT. Along with time each day to explore a trade or STEM activity, girls are also provided an opportunity to discuss what it means to be a teenage girl in today’s society.
Band
Because of the ski trip for Voyagers, Mr. Mehaffey will be having all of the Jr. Band lessons tomorrow instead of today. Anyone who brought their instrument to school, may leave it in your classroom or the bandroom. Lessons for flute, clarinet, sax, trumpet and trombone will be at the same time tomorrow.
Over the last year, Santa has been checking his list twice, to make sure all the boys and girls are extra nice. As he checked his list, he noticed one special girl at City School. Now this girl worked hard to spread cheer throughout the year. Santa thought he would send her a special surprise to make her holiday even brighter than usual. He asked all of his elves at the North Pole to create decorations. Then Santa sent his two favorite elves, Holly and Day to "Elf" her office.
