SNACKS
Granny Smith Apples: "Granny Smith" apple trees produce fruit that can be eaten out of hand or cooked. Due to the high acid content, these apples do not turn brown after cutting as soon as most other apple varieties. "Granny Smith" apples have firm flesh that holds its shape when slices are cooked until tender. The rich, tangy flavor and firm flesh make "Granny Smith" apples suitable for pies, tarts, chunky applesauce and other dishes. "Granny Smith" apples that remain on the tree until leaf drop have a sweeter flavor. | ||

EXPECTED RECESS WEATHER
Head outside for some exercise. Be mindful that some slippery ice remains where students like to play. Consider exploring other areas of the property where the ice is less problematic.

LOST AND FOUND UPDATE
Lost and Found will be separated into three week containers starting 1/29. Items not claimed in Week 1 will be moved to Week 2 and Week 2 Items will be moved to Week 3. At the end of Week 3, any unclaimed items will be donated to our area Food Bank.
It is especially helpful if clothing, boots, and bags are labeled with the student's name. This helps us to identify the owner and return the missing items. We have available to our families, a permanent marker and tape at the front desk for anyone needing assistance in marking items.
Lost and Found is located in the Front Hall by the Lobby.

PICTURES AND REPORTS
INCREDIBLES
Students transitioned to Mr. Clark's room for a lesson in writing. Before engaging in that task, students stepped out in the hallway where Mr. Clark led them through three short but vigorous exercises. It was enough movement to shake out the cobwebs from the previous class and to ready the students for a productive writing session. LINK TO 14 PICTURES
INCREDIBLES
Mr. Clark gave students a writing prompt and guidance during a classroom time period that also encompassed a snack of cucumbers or clementines. There was considerable discussion and explanations about the writing task. The work students accomplished was posted to their Haiku sites. LINK TO 35 PICTURES
UNIFIED ARTS STAFF
At the weekly Unified Arts teachers meeting, staff have been taking a few minutes to test out some of the unique equipment used in each area of the arts program. On Friday 1-26-2018 they learned how students use iPads to code movement patterns for robots. Last week staff got to try out some of the musical instruments in Ms. Cameron-Muscente's classroom.
