SNACKS
Carrots were domesticated in the ancient empires located in today’s Iran and Afghanistan over 5000 years ago. From there, this great root vegetable spread across the known world. There are over 100 species of edible carrots today. Until 17th century, the only edible types of carrots had black, white, red and purple colors. The iconic orange carrots were created by selective breeding in Netherlands as a tribute to the ruling House of Orange. LINK TO REFERENCE | ||

EXPECTED RECESS WEATHER
It will be slightly warmer today. Those of you that are feeling cabin bound, and that are dressed properly for winter, may want to consider going outside.
Unfortunately, there will again be no snow tubes and snowshoes outside today because the snow is not deep and there remains a dangerous layer of ice under the snow on the sledding hill. :( We should be snow tubing again on Thursday and possibly even Wednesday mid day.

EVENTS OR NOTICES
Does art inspire you? Clouds that look like faces? Sugar? Discovering new galaxies? Artists have looked to the world around them for centuries to gain inspiration. This year’s 10th anniversary of Doodle 4 Google asks students to do the same. The winner’s artwork will be made into an interactive doodle on Google.com as well as loads of scholarships and prizes.
Use your imagination to create a Google Doodle based on what inspires you.

PICTURES AND REPORTS
DISCOVERY
Discovery assembed cardboard PinBox (pinball) Machines on Monday 2-5-2018. The plan and materials used for the project were created by Ben Matchstick from the Cardboard Teck Instantute. He spent the whole school day helping students from grade 5 move towards completion of their machines. Ulitimately, each cluster of students will customize their PinBox with artwork. This PinBox 3000 project is proving to be a deeply engaging project for almost every student. LINK TO 19 PICTURES
INVESTIGATORS
Last week Investigators first graders examined "glaciers" as they learned about landforms and how glaciers can change the shape of the land and create different landforms.
