EVENTS AND NOTICES

POSSIBILITY OF AFTER SCHOOL YMCA CHILDCARE AT ST. ALBANS CITY SCHOOL
We are looking to partner with the YMCA to bring full afterschool care to St. Albans. They would be at City school. To make this happen, we will need interest from our families. If this is something your family would be interested in, please contact Stephanie Beck at sbeck@maplerun.org 802 527-0565 x3706

Description of YMCA Program
The hours children spend outside of the classroom are critical to their growth and development. The Y is committed to providing children with a safe, enriching and fun environment during out-of-school time, where staff members foster positive physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth. Our curriculum complements the school day with extended learning opportunities that include sports, outdoor play, the arts, skill-building clubs, STEM, literacy and more.

Who is the program for?
Each Y School Age program is available to all children in grades K-6. The full-week options and hours are designed to meet the childcare needs of working families. The Y’s flexible enrollment schedule encourages children to participate who may need enrichment, exercise or a supervised environment with positive adult role models just a few days each week.

The program runs from dismissal until 6 pm daily, Monday- Friday

Afterschool Rates
1 day $35
2 days $59
3 days $71

PICTURES AND REPORTS

CLiF FREE BOOK PROGRAM
At 9:00 and 10:00 AM this Monday (8-5-2019), students assembled in the library to hear stories and select two free books each to take home and read. The Children's Literacy Foundation (CLiF) has been giving away high-quality books and promoting the joy of reading throughout Vermont and New Hampshire for decades. The organization's goal is to ignite an interest in reading among kids up to age 12. Duncan McDougall, the founder of this non-profit organization, was the presenter today. He drove up in little red Toyota Prius with $6,000 dollars of books and proceeded to quickly set up an enticing display. Mr. McDougall first met with summer school kindergarten - third-grade students, and then next with 4th - 8th graders. Parents and children from the community also participated. Each session began with a reading of an age-group appropriate book followed by the children's book selection process. It was clear that students of all ages were spellbound by Mr. McDougall's obvious passion and talent for presenting the stories he chose. Everyone left the sessions inspired and excited about reading. LINK TO 60 PICTURES This program receives no government support and is sponsored simply by local people who love to read.
