SACS WINS HEALTHIEST SCHOOL RECOGNITION
We are proud to announce that St. Albans City School has been named one of America’s #HealthiestSchools by @HealthierGeneration! Three hundred and fifty-five amazing schools around the nation are being recognized for this honor this September 2019. We are the only school in Vermont with this designation. The healthiest school award came about when Ms. Frost from RiseVT suggested that our school apply for the award because we had already taken nutrition and exercise actions that would qualify for this recognition. This past spring, a large committee formed to gather the volumes of information necessary to apply for the award and the paperwork was submitted prior to the end of the school year. On the 16th of September, we heard back from Healthier Generation that our school had won recognition for our sustained health promotion work. Look for us on their official list! www.HealthiestSchools.org

We want to thank everyone at St. Albans City School and in the community who worked so hard over the last decade to give our students and staff the healthy futures they deserve.

90% of the recognized schools scored bronze, just as we did.

STUDENT-LED WALKING SCHOOL BUS PROGRAM BEGINS MONDAY, Sept. 23rd
This pilot program will have three routes and will operate daily up to Thanksgiving. Four 6th-8th grade leaders on each route will supervise students as they walk to school. The program is being overseen by Wellness Coordinator, Mr. Craib (mcraib@maplerun.org 527-0565), School Resource Officer, Seargent Tally, and School Counselor, Ms. Goldsmith.

1st-8th grade students may join the walking school buses. PreK and K students will have to wait until they get older since we cannot accommodate the youngest students before 8:00am on days other than Walking Wednesdays.

Families, please note this important point: These are students leading students. If you feel uncomfortable about entrusting your child(ren) to a student-led walking school bus program, then we ask that you have them continue to ride the regular bus or drive them into school. This program is aimed at increasing the number of kids walking carefully to school each day.

The routes chosen cover the areas with largest number of students. If this program works well this year, we will strive to expand it to cover all seven of our Walking Wednesday routes. We hope some students who live nearby will walk a block or two to join the walking school buses listed below.

See you on Monday.

CRUSHED STONE IN THE NEW GAGA PIT
The grass in the second gaga pit is now gone due to the impact of thousands of student footsteps while playing gaga ball. These Renaissance students kindly took time to rake out a layer of crushed gravel into the bottom of the pit to improve drainage and eliminate mud issues in the spring. 9-19-2019
