PICTURES AND REPORTS

EXPLORERS
Ms. Dupont had her students focused on a variety of reading tasks. These photographs were taken in her classroom on 12-3-2019.  LINK TO 30 PICTURES

WALKING WEDNESDAY RESULTS

We had Army Reserve Guard members join us on two of the walking school bus routes, Commander Dakota Smith (left in the picture - Messenger Street Group) and Andrew Knapp (right in the picture - Lincoln Street Group). The local guard unit plans to have three members join us on the remaining Walking Wednesdays this school year. We are grateful for their participation and support.

72 people signed in as having walked to school on Wednesday morning. It was fairly dark and cold when some groups started which may explain a fairly modest turnout. Triumph, as usual, had the highest turnout. Nice job!

If you are walking or biking into school on a Walking Wednesday, regardless of whether or not you are a part of a walking school bus group, we would appreciate your signing in. We want to know how effective our walking/biking promotion efforts are.

OPERATION HAPPINESS UPDATE

Renaissance plans to take all the food they have gathered to the Hannaford Plaza on Friday. This means that there is very little time left to meet the goal of 1500 food items collected. Remember to bring in whatever you want to donate. Thank you.

LIBRARY

Students waited on the floor of the library with their freshly checked out books. Others were still checking out books when this photo was taken.

HIGH SCHOOL MENTORS

A substantial number of students from BFA were in the building yesterday working with our younger students. They are gaining practical experience they can use to determine if they want to work in the fields of education or childcare. Our students love the opportunity to connect with enthusiastic high schoolers. 12-4-2019

UNIFIED ARTS ELECTIVE - HOW TO BE AN ADULT
7th and 8th graders take part in elective classes that have students cooking, making art, taking part in cardio specific physical education and more. One course being tried out this trimester focuses on small and big things that "adults" do. Students are covering topisc like finding a job as a middle schooler and high schooler, how to plan a house-hold budget, what it will take to own and manage a car, etc. These photos show a few of the participants learning how to sew on a button or repair a hole in clothing. Mr. Craib, Mrs. Wade and Mrs. Biggie guided the lesson.

VEGETABLE OF THE MONTH - WINTER SQUASH

Delicata, Acorn, and Butternut... oh my! There are a plethora of winter squash varieties just waiting for you to try! Here's an extensive list, for those curious enough to try them all. What makes winter squash different from its summertime counterpart? The rind. Winter squash is harvested in the fall when the seeds have matured fully and the skin has hardened into a tough rind. This thick, protective layer allows the squash to keep throughout the winter, making it a staple in dishes during the colder months. The skin is inedible in all winter squash varieties EXCEPT delicata squash, which can be eaten rind and all. What is your favorite kind of winter squash?

DAY OF CODE -ALMOST HERE. Friday, December 6th
The annual Day of Code is quickly approaching and we will be celebrating with a day filled with fun coding workshops and activities on Friday, December 6th. Our website has been updated and is filled with fun activities to learn the basics of coding and even take it a little bit further!

This year every grade will participate in a coding/programming workshop led by fellow students or teachers. These workshops range from coding robots, choreographing dances using code, making stickers with code, and so many more!

We are so excited and we hope you are too! Check out our website for more information. Day of Code Website Check out this short video talking about coding Hour of Code Video
