THE ST. ALBANS CITY SCHOOL 50TH CELEBRATION CONTINUES INTO 2020
Over the next several weeks, the daily announcements will include pictures from 1970 and a similar picture that was taken 50 years later in 2020. These pictures are also posted on the wall outside the big gym. Can you see anything that is the same 50 years later?

STUDY CARRELS are an integral part of the learning center.  Here a class works on a research project. With carrels, many students can work together in one room with little distraction. Library in 1970

WALKING WEDNESDAY RESULTS 1-8-2020
Forty-seven students and 11 adults trouped through the dark and icy conditions to get to school on the only January Walking Wednesday of the school year. The Investigators and Travelers both registered the highest participation rates among the learning communities. Thank you both teams.
Here are a few pictures of the event taken near the crossing of Aldis and Elm Streets.

5/6 BASKETBALL GAMES AT HIGHGATE

These game pictures from Wednesday evening 1-8-2020 were kindly provided by Ms. Mitchell. LINK TO 30 PICTURES

Anyone else with current basketball pictures is welcome to share them with Mr. Craib for the announcements. mcraib@maplerun.org

LEXIA IN PRE-K
Lexia is reading and writing software that is used in our district and across the grades here at St. Albans City School. PreK teacher, Ms. Stanton, shared a few pictures of her very young students using Lexia independently. They love using chromebooks and this assessment and teaching tool.

TWINS

WEATHER

Enjoy snow tubing today. Dress warmly for the high winds. We can expect a big melt off over the next few days and it is unclear when we will be sledding again.

If the sledding hill becomes too icy today, the snow tubes will be put away.

January | Beets are the "Harvest of the Month"

Happy New Year!  Perhaps you've made a resolution to eat healthier this year.  Beets are a great "secret weapon" addition to your diet, due to the lesser-known, but highly beneficial nutrients they contain.  Certain compounds in beets, such as nitrates, betalains, and betaine, can help with oxidative stress, inflammation, cardiovascular health, and cognition.  Betalains, which give beets their bright red color, are known to provide a powerful antioxidant and inflammatory effect.  Read up on all of the ways beets can improve your health here.  The unique texture and color of beets provide a great addition to any meal.  We hope you incorporate this lovely root vegetable into your dishes this month, or any time of the year!

Vermont Harvest of the Month is a project of Green Mountain Farm-to-SchoolFood Connects, and Vital Communities.
