MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL October 7, 2020 Dear St. Albans City School Families, Our school community is really doing well with the requirements for safely returning to school during COVID 19. Children are wearing masks, following directions, washing their hands often, staying home when sick, and maintaining their distance. Reminders are needed at times, but we fully expect that. Children are responding well when they are reminded. By now you have heard that we are going to start to bring students back to school for more in-person-days. First, we want you to know that we are continuing to take all precautions and changing only those things that we must change to make it possible to bring back more children. The first step is to bring back kindergarten. This will happen on October 15th. Today we have prepared the kindergarten rooms for the full class. We will then run through the Green days and Blue days explaining the change to students before we actually bring all students together. It was a busy day today as we got the rooms ready. Each child will still have their own station and their own materials. We now just have more stations in the room. This first step will also involve two other changes; the bus and meals. We will be adding the green and blue bus students together on the buses. This may alter a few pickup and drop off times by a few minutes. At this point, we have plenty of capacity to do this and still meet our physical distancing requirements and recommendations. The students are currently following expectations on the bus, and that is very helpful. We will continue to have bus monitors for all buses. As far as meals are concerned, kindergarten students will now get breakfast, lunch, and snack each of the 4 days at school. On Tuesday they will bring home a breakfast and lunch for Wednesday. For Kindergarten Wednesday will remain a remote learning day, and we will continue with work coming home on paper, and teachers will connect with children when they are on their remote day. We will not be sending home student devices in kindergarten at this time. We are continuing to help students understand how to access their learning using their devices so that if we are sent to full remote again, they will have access and know how to use the device. Our kindergarten classes are fairly small this year, so this step will have little impact for meeting COVID expectations. We know how excited our students are to be at school, and we are excited to have them with us. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us. Our School Community is Raider Strong!
