PICTURES & NEWS NAVIGATORS (LAIDMAN'S CLASSROOM) STEAM CLASS - RANKIN The Rankin Bot 3000 visited Ms. Laidman’s class during STEAM time to teach some students simple coding skills. The student loved learning about the Bee-Bots she brought with her for this purpose. There were also computerized coding games to try out. Link to 28 Pictures taken by Ms. Asato-Ditch. MUSIC - HARTMAN Recently, Ms. Hartman has been teaching 6th Graders how to play small guitar-like instruments called ukuleles. She is showing them how to read music and play an array of cords. These are foundational music skills that will hold them in good stead once the pandemic is over and these students can pick up other instruments and have the opportunity to play in bands and orchestras again. 12-7-2020 & 12-8-2020. CRAFTING Safety Resource Officer, Ms. Cadorette, and counselor, Ms. Turpen, worked with several students on a pine cone crafting project. They shared their pictures here. 12-8-2020 INDOOR PE - JARVIS Because of the wintery conditions outside, Ms. Jarvis held indoor sessions this week with two-part classroom experiences. Students and Ms. Jarvis first copied a series of dance and calisthenic moves shown on an exercise video. The moves were simple and vigorous and lased about 10-15 minutes in total. When everyone was exhausted, Ms. Jarvis gave each student a ping pong ball launcher and rotated them in pairs or triplets around a series of target shooting stations. These accuracy games got some friendly competitive behaviors going and gave students a sense of exploratory joy. This phenomenon happens once every 800 years and will be visible for about a week at that time. This 3-minute video explains the alignment. https://youtu.be/ONOdOlrX3OQ |
8TH GRADER BABY PICTURES WANTED The yearbook committee would like 8th graders to submit baby pictures for the yearbook. It is best if you provide digital copies of your pictures to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org. If you need to bring in the original image for scanning, you can give it to your 7/8-grade teacher who will pass it on to Mr. Craib. The picture will be scanned as soon as it is received and immediately returned safely to the student. Thank you. |
