TRIUMPH 4TH GRADE EARTH DAY CLASSWORK - DRAPER

Ms. Draper read aloud Dr. Seuss’s book, the “Lorax”, to help get students to consider the importance of preserving the environment we all live in. After hearing the story and reading two poetry samples that she and Ms. Bashaw produced, Ms. Draper wanted students to pick their own conservation or social topic of interest to advocate for. The students conducted research on their topic before starting on a piece of poetry or essay that they plan to finish before Spring Break. Link to 16 Pictures.

TRAVEL GUIDANCE

As part of Vermont's phased reopening plan, there is new travel guidance, effective April 9, 2021.

CDC recommends delaying travel until you are fully vaccinated, because travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19.

TESTING UPON RETURN

Unvaccinated Vermonters who have traveled outside the state must be tested within 3 days of returning to Vermont.

  • The test you get must be for a current infection (like a PCR test), except it cannot be an antigen test (also known as a rapid test).

  • Find free and fast testing near you.

  • You do not need to quarantine while you wait for a result. But if you have any symptoms, stay home and away from other people.

Vaccinated Vermonters do not need to get tested or quarantine.

People who had COVID-19 within the last 3 months and have recovered do not need to test or quarantine unless they develop new symptoms.

Rules for Vermonters who have traveled to other countries are different. Learn more.

EARTH DAY CHALLENGE MESSAGE

Wondering what Earth Day is and how it got started? Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and now includes events in more than 193 countries.

Because Earth day takes place when we are on Break, Triumph, Voyagers, Discovery would like to celebrate Earth Day next week from April 12th-15th.  We want to recognize and do some educational activities this coming week and we would like to send a challenge to the rest of the school.

The Challenge: What can you do to make SACS more beautiful? Can you write a beautiful poem about the Earth? Could you pick up litter? Could you make an art project out of recycled materials? Etc...  Share your work with Mr. Craib (mcraib@maplerun.org) and we'll do the same.

This is a beautiful nature poem by Eva Huffaker https://www.eekwi.org/activities/stories/nature-our-teacher
