MESSAGE TO 7th/8th GRADE FAMILIES

FROM THE PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

May 12, 2021

Dear St. Albans City School 7th and 8th-grade Families,

First, we would like to continue to share how proud we are of our students, staff, and families for making the very best of this strange year. As you read in Kevin Dirth’s recent letter to Maple Run Families, starting Monday, May 17th, we will be bringing our 7th and 8th-grade students back 4 days a week. We understand that students are not completely comfortable with having all students back, and we will be working to help reconnect the blue and green groups while staying COVID-safe.

We ordered beautiful new desks that would allow students to continue to have their own desk and fit the full number of desks in the room. While the expected delivery was last week, shipping delays have us not receiving them until after Memorial Day. Our teachers have plans that will work, while we wait for our new tables.

We will be having a few end-of-year celebrations in our 7th and 8th grades. We are keeping these small so that we can be as safe as possible. Our 7th grade will get the opportunity to go on the bike trip that they missed at the end of their 6th-grade year. This year it will look a little different. They will be going with all of the teachers on their team, and only the students in 7th grade on their team.  Each team will go on a separate day.  Our 8th grade will be having a celebration with all of their teachers planned as a beach day. Again, each team will go on a separate day and teams will provide more information.  Our celebrations will follow all guidance for COVID so that we are mitigating risks.

Tuesday, June 8th we will have a Virtual PLP night where our 8th-grade students will share their PLP speeches. More details will be provided by the 7-8 teams. We will also be having an in-person graduation on June 9th from 6:00-7:00. This will be held outside, in front of the school. We will use the stairs as a stage and students will be under a tent next to the covered walkway. Families will be seated in the main parking lot. We are asking families to bring their lawn chairs - or they can borrow the folding chairs that we have. The parking lot will be marked to allow families to sit together and have enough distance between households.

We thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate this together.  We are looking forward to offering our students special moments to mark their time here with us at City School.
