WALKING WEDNESDAY RESULTS 10-27-2021

One hundred and sixty students and twenty-one adults walked or biked into school on Wednesday (181 total). This was a very good turnout given the dark morning start and the cool weather conditions. Renaissance had excellent participation, as did Voyagers, USA & Triumph

Some students and leaders gathered at the fountain at 7:00am in Taylor Park before heading to school.

VOYAGERS BOX VOLUME PROJECT

Ms. Chisholm had her 5th graders tackle a box volume math project. Students first had to find a box and then create an imaginary product it contained. After decorating their box, each student had to figure out its' volume. Students measured their boxes (Length, Hight, and Width) in centimeters or in inches and then did the volume calculations. Some worked with whole numbered measurements while others had to multiply fractions. This project was a fun way to have students become invested in a math project that had meaningful results. Here are three videos of students explaining their projects.

NAVIGATORS SPIDER RACES

Here are pictures taken of the spider races yesterday, 10-16-2021. The children colored a variety of different spider pictures and then they were off to the races. Miss Danielle and Miss Rie were the flies and the kids had to move their spiders up the string to get to the flies. Link to 20 Pictures.

EXPLORERS 3RD GRADE MATH - FENTON

These students were working on subtraction problems individually and in small groups when these pictures were taken. Link to 21 Pictures.

BLUE BLOCK P.E. WITH MS. JARVIS

Blue blocks are now being made available to the younger children again. Ms. Stanton’s kindergarteners had never seen foam blue blocks or built with them before. They greatly enjoyed the new experience with these firm construction materials. Link to 10 Pictures.

DISCOVERY WACKY WEDNESDAY

NAVIGATORS KINDERGARTEN CHICKENS - LAWYER

Ms. Lawyer’s students fed the chickens with produce from the garden: tomatoes, kale, and swiss chard. The chickens were happy to receive the fresh food. 10-27-2021

MRUSD STRINGS CONCERT 10-21-2021

Here is a more detailed write-up about the recent strings concert where four of our students participated.

String students from across the Maple Run School district performed in the upper connector parking lot at BFA for an enthusiastic crowd on October 21st. Rusty Charpentier, Maple Run String Educator, and Eric Bushey, BFA Music led the students in selections that included “Night on Bald Mountain” “The Abandoned Funhouse” and “Poor Wayfaring Stranger” among many others. This concert featured students from grades 4-12 and showcased just how vibrant and alive string music is in our district.

Since Rusty Charpentier’s arrival in our district just a few years ago we have gone from a string program in the single digits to over 80 students across the district playing instruments that include the violin, viola, cello, and string bass.

What was feared to be a rained-out show turned into a lovely evening for an outside concert. The clouds parted, parents set up their camp chairs and all were serenaded for nearly an hour with lovely string music. Stay tuned - there is much more to come this year!
