PICTURES & NEWS WALKING WEDNESDAY RESULTS It was a windy 30 degree fahrenheit morning as the Walking Wednesday students and leaders trekked to St. Albans City School on February 2nd. Seventy-seven students and twenty one adults walked or biked here (98 total). For this time of year, that is an excellent turnout. Shout out to Imagination for their top-scoring participation rate. Thank you. Link to 37 Pictures. Students who walked received a Vermont Tough winter walk day sticker from Local Motion and some reflective shoe laces or a warm winter hat from RiseVT. Local Motion (a walk/bike promotion non-profit organization) also gifted the school a set of 24 reusable hand warmers that Ms. Grudev’s group tried out. The hand warmers are boiled which sanitizes and sets them up for use. The students click a button in the bags which activates them to release heat when wanted. Boiling them again sets them up for reuse. They were a success on Wednesday morning. IT WAS "TWO DAY" IN MS. THU BORCH’S ADVENTURERS CLASSROOM. Makerspace staff and students decorated Ms. Thu’s room to celebrate Wednesday’s date, 2-2-2022, in connection with the sound of Ms. Thu’s name.

MAPLE RUN UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT PARENT ZOOM NIGHT VAPE PRODUCTS AND THEIR IMPACT 6:00pm Thursday, February 10th With Amy Brewer Vaping products come in many forms and still in many flavors. They are being successfully marketed to children, and are unfortunately fairly widely used by children. To learn more about these products and their impacts on our children, The Maple Run Unified School District is hosting a Zoom event with Amy Brewer, Health Educator, Northwestern Medical Center, and Coordinator, Franklin Grand Isle Tobacco Prevention Coalition. Amy will share what the products look like, how children get access, and most importantly, the impacts on their developing brains. Please join us for a Maple Run Unified School District Parent Zoom Night. The event is 6:00pm Thursday, February 10th. If you would like an invitation with the Zoom link, please submit a request here. Your invitation will be mailed to you on the morning of the 10th. |
8TH GRADE BABY PICTURES The yearbook committee is collecting baby pictures from 8th graders. Please find a picture to have posted in this year’s book. If you don’t have one from the first year of life, then consider turning in one from the first six years or so (example - as a kindergarten student). We would like a "baby-picture" from every 8th grader. Digital copies can be sent directly to Mr. Craib at mcraib@maplerun.org If you want to bring in a hard-copy photo you can give it to your teacher. Mr. Craib will scan the photo immediately and return it to you the day you bring it in. The picture below is of a student from a previous 8th grade group in the last few years. |
FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF PASSING THROUGH THE LIBRARY… As part of the St. Albans Museum’s ongoing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, they set out to highlight the often-overlooked perspectives of Black Vermonters in St. Albans and Franklin County. The resulting exhibit, Untold Stories, Unheard Voices, celebrates the lives and contributions of several key figures from the Revolutionary War to the 1960s through a series of informational panels. Printed versions of the panels below will be displayed in our library from February 2 through the 18th for your enjoyment. |
WINTER SPORTS Volleyball sign ups are still open. Please submit sign up sheets by Winter Break, February 18th. PRACTICE AND GAME SCHEDULE

BLACK HISTORY MONTH Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Check out these books from our library today! Here is a link to our online library catalog to access these texts, place holds, and see what’s available in our school library. This is the story of one brave family: Mildred Loving, Richard Perry Loving, and their three children. It is the story of how Mildred and Richard fell in love, and got married in Washington, D.C. But when they moved back to their hometown in Virginia, they were arrested (in dramatic fashion) for violating that state's laws against interracial marriage. The Lovings refused to allow their children to get the message that their parents' love was wrong and so they fought the unfair law, taking their case all the way to the Supreme Court - and won! One of our very own Red Clover Nominees from this year’s list! Hall-of-famer Elgin Baylor was one of basketball’s all-time-greatest players—an innovative athlete, team player, and quiet force for change. One of the first professional African-American players, he inspired others on and off the court. But when traveling for away games, many hotels and restaurants turned Elgin away because he was black. One night, Elgin had enough and staged a one-man protest that captured the attention of the press, the public, and the NBA. This powerful, rhythmic lullaby reassures readers that their matter and their worth is never diminished, no matter the circumstance: through the joy and wonder of their first steps and first laughs, through the hardship of adolescent struggles, and the pain and heartbreak of current events, they always have, and always will, matter. |
