Dear St. Albans City School Families –

We hope your family has had a wonderful summer. It was great to have so many students and staff take part in our summer camps. Our numbers this year exceeded previous years, with 333 students attending at least one camp, and many attending several.  Each camp had a culminating event where we got to see many families this summer.

In addition to camp, our custodial and logistics staff have been busy all summer getting the building ready for our students. We are pleased to continue to provide a clean, safe environment for all of our students, with a focus on accessibility. This year you will notice some upgrades in place. We have removed the stones at the front of the building and repaired the sidewalk leading to the pavilion. We have also begun replacing the moveable walls, starting in Team Renaissance. This project will span several years. We have two other big upgrades on order, but as with many things, supply chain problems have delayed their delivery. We have new picnic tables for the patio that will arrive in spring. We have new handicap-accessible playground equipment arriving this spring as well.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 31st. It will be a regular, early dismissal, Wednesday. In past COVID years, we had a larger window for arrival and dismissal times. This year we want to maximize our learning time. To do that we need to tighten up the start and end of the day. Walkers, bikers, and buses will arrive at 7:30 and leave at 1:35 each Wednesday (2:35 Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Friday). Students that arrive by car will arrive at 7:40 and leave at 1:40 Wednesday (2:40 Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Friday). It is expected that all students are picked up no later than 1:45 on Wednesday and 2:45 Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Friday. This schedule will serve all students in K-8th grades. We will again use all three sides of our building for family drop-off and pick-up. Families that use the bus side of the building for drop-off and pickup can use the front or wait until buses leave. Our full-day PreK will offer 5 days a week with a shortened day. Their day starts at 8:00 and ends at 2:00 (12:45 on Wednesdays). They start school right after Labor day, Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

To welcome back our families, we will hold an Open House on Tuesday, August 30th  from 4:30-5:30. We hope that our Open House will allow families to feel comfortable knowing where their child will be for the year, and to get to meet their teachers. We will also have a Resource Fair outdoors in front of the school to support the needs of our students and families.

We need your help with making sure the information for your children and family is up to date and that we have accurate busing information. Earlier this summer we sent out the information that we have about your children. Many of you have already gotten that back to us, thank you. If you have not yet returned it, please look at the information sheet and correct it if needed then sign and return. If no changes are needed then just sign it as is and return it. Also, please fill in the busing information sheet - this information about students that ride the bus and students that will walk or get dropped off will help inform our bus routes and the number of buses we will need. This will allow us to provide the busing information at Open House.  This information can then go in the enclosed stamped envelope.

We are so excited to have our students and families back with us for another school year. We promise to continue to share the joy and experiences from each day through our Daily Announcements and on Facebook.

We look forward to seeing our families on August 30th.

Thank you,

Joan and Stacie
