PICTURES & NEWS CHORUS CONCERT It was a terrific and well attended chorus concert. There are photos of students waiting for the event to start as well as many of them performing. Near the end of the concert, Ms. Maher, the singers, Assistant principal, Ms. Rouleau, and the audience celebrated the coming retirement of music teacher, Ms. Cameron Muscente who has served the school for more than 20 years. The evening was very special for everyone. Link to 43 minute long video Link to 173 Pictures. BUSING, WALKING, SKATEBOARDING, AND SCOOTERING FRIDAY RESULTS Team Discovery led the way this last week with the most students arriving by bus or by using their own power. Voyagers, Triumph and Travelers students also produced strong participation numbers. When total Friday participation numbers are compared week to week, we can see that they are fairly similar at about 350 students. This is more than half our student population who take the bus or arrive here on their own. Thank you to everyone for trying to reduce our vehicle greenhouse gas emissions. We have one more Friday this month to see what we can accomplish. VOYAGERS AND KALEIDOSCOPE LUNCH BUDDIES - SATO Sixth graders have kaleidoscope buddies during enrichment time. These pictures were taken on Friday, May 19th. Link to 5 Pictures. |

LIBRARY
May is Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month! This month celebrates the unique journey of all AAPI immigrants and citizens in the United States and their unique life experiences, traditions and cultures. Look for these books in our library to help you honor and celebrate the historical and cultural contributions of individuals and groups of Asian and Pacific Islander descent. This book examines the skills needed to become a samurai warrior in 17th-century Japan, including courage, obedience, strength, dedication and fighting skills, as well as the dangers involved in holding such a prestigious position. Each book uses humorous illustrations to depict the sometimes dark and horrific side of life during important eras in history. Glittering. That's how Katie Takeshima's sister, Lynn, makes everything seem. The sky is kira-kira because its color is deep but see-through at the same time. The sea is kira-kira for the same reason. And so are people's eyes. When Katie and her family move from a Japanese community in Iowa to the Deep South of Georgia, it's Lynn who explains to her why people stop on the street to stare. And it's Lynn who, with her special way of viewing the world, teaches Katie to look beyond tomorrow. But when Lynn becomes desperately ill, and the whole family begins to fall apart, it is up to Katie to find a way to remind them all that there is always something glittering -- kira-kira -- in the future. |
