PICTURES & NEWS BAND & ORCHESTRA CONCERT - CHARPENTIER & KELLY A beautiful concert was put on by student musicians and their instructors on Thursday last week. 5-25-2023. All the students have progressed dramatically over the school year and their performances showed it. Everyone has a lot to be proud of. There are two sets of pictures of the performances, ones taken by the school staff and ones provided by a parent, Ms. Brooks. FANCY DANCE 2023 On Friday afternoon, 5-26-2023, the long awaited Fancy Dance for 2023 was held. Each 1st through 3rd grade learning community took turns coming to the cafeteria where groups of 7th graders from either Renaissance or USA hosted the dance. Wild dancing each session, sandwiched a five minute period of eating chocolate covered strawberries. DJ Trainer played danceable music and the 7th graders and teachers joined in. Here is a link to 197 pictures from the four 1-3 learning communities as they came through. REPORT ON BUSSING, WALKING, BIKING, SCOOTER RIDING & SKATEBOARDING FRIDAY 5-26-2023 This spring the climate committee was interested to test if participation in more efficient ways of getting to school could be increased during May 2023. We don't have a clear answer to that question but we do know that adding bussing, walking, biking, scooter riding and skateboarding on Fridays did experience enthusiastic participation. Roughly 350 students, or more than 50% of the the students, chose those more efficient transportation methods over being dropped off by family members. Of those students, between 100 and 116 walked/biked/scootered/skateboarded. The rest bussed. Thank you to all the students, leaders and families for your support during this transportation efficiency campaign. For the participants mentioned above, the raffle for school store coupons and the used bikes will take place later this week. Results will be posted in the announcements. The Voyagers had the best participation rate this last Friday. Way to go! Students are part of a freshman class that includes about 225 students. Our 8th graders are excited for their next step in their education. They received their schedules and met the students in their advisory. Walking to BFA NAVIGATORS EXPERIENCES WITH BABY CHICKS (EMMONS) One of the favorite units that Kindergarten participates in every year is our Farm Life/ Embryology unit. During this time the children learn all about the farm and farm life. This includes of course, the life cycle of a chicken! We start out with fertilized eggs and 21 days later we start to see cracks and hear peeps! It it one of the most amazing curriculums that we do all year! The children become keepers of the eggs, and Miss Danielle becomes the momma hen! The kids help her turn the eggs every morning and check off to make sure the humidity and temps are good. We have eggs in the classroom which kids crack open every day to see what it looks like inside the egg on each day as the chicks grow. We even get to candle the eggs so we can see the baby inside the egg as it grows! We had 15 out of 16 eggs hatch for the most amazing little chicks this year! Miss Jessica’s room from prek got to visit as well! The highlight for the kids I think is chick play at the end of every day! Lots of smiles, peeps and poops! Kindergarten science at its very best!
