Dental Health Fair for Learning Communities 1-3

Our first Dental Health Fair was a huge success. Each 1-3 Learning Community was able
to visit five stations to learn about dental health. The following stations were available for all students:

Heather Blair, Dental Hygienist with VTC clinical students provided a tooth brushing lab. Each student left with a toothbrush, toothpaste and important information about tooth care provided. Megan Peek, Blue Cross Blue Specialist, Community Outreach specialist, provided an interactive experience matching the amount of sugar in various beverages. Students were surprised and left knowing the impact on their teeth. Jill Goodroe, Vt. Dairy Council and Sean McManus , Blue Cross Community Outreach specialist, provided the opportunity for every student to help to make smoothies using the power of pedaling the bicycle. Dr. Chuck from Fiddlehead Dentistry provided engaging conversation and illustration about Oral Hygiene and Nutrition.

This day was made possible through lots of collaboration, planning and hard work on
behalf of the following people and teams:

Team USA provided a large portion of their physical space to allow for this opportunity. They were flexible and staff and students deserve a lot of credit.
Abbey Group for fixing healthy snacks for students to try. The assortment of vegetables were colorful and students enjoyed them.
Melissa Habberman, Art Teacher for having the students create four
wonderful posters that labeled the sessions. Meagan, Abigail, Juliana and Danielle. Georgie Andrews, Nurse Morgan, Wendy Trainer, Joanne Chambers, and our custodial staff who helped in many, many ways.

A very special thank you to each person who helped with this venture especially to
Nurse, Katie Raleigh who made this happen for our students.

Amazingly, the most powerful part of the pumpkin lies in its least used part. The Zinc found in pumpkin seeds plays a vital role in enhancing memory and thinking skills. Sunflower seeds are high in thiamine, an important B vitamin, which increases memory and cognitive function.
