Announcements 10-22-12

Congratulations SACS "Lunch Ladies"!

The whole school came together on Thursday morning in the gym to honor the amazing group of women who work in the SACS kitchen. They were nominated and won 2012 GREET THE CHALLENGE AWARD for Excellence in Providing Outstanding Food and Customer Service to our Students and Community.

During the school wide assembly, the senior band played and students spoke and held up signs thanking Beth, Erica, Melissa, Wendy, Barb, Lucy, Micki and Pat.  Lastly, new murals for the kitchen were unveiled painted by Dynamic Design students. We are so thankful and proud of our "Lunch Ladies"!

Spelling Bee

On Thursday, the 7th/8th Spelling Bee Team had their last practice together as a group.  They have been working hard for many weeks to prepare, and they will compete in the District Spelling Bee against teams from Fairfield and St. Albans Town on Monday (at Fairfield Center School).
Good Luck to Nate, Skylar, Lonna, Gabbi, Camille, and Abby!

Red Ribbon Week

Dear Families:

Over the next two weeks we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week at St. Albans City School. Red Ribbon Week is celebrated October 23-31, in schools across the country to increase public awareness of drug abuse and to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The theme for this year is “The Best Me is Drug-Free”.

Red Ribbon week is dedicated to Federal drug enforcement agent Enrique Camarena, who was killed by drug traffickers in Mexico in 1985. In response to his death, angered parents across the country began wearing Red Ribbons to symbolize their commitment toward the creation of a drug-free America.

Our Vermont Kids Against Tobacco (VKAT) group have developed themes and activities that will be implemented during the week to promote a drug-free, smoke-free, healthy community. You can get involved at home by helping to reinforce the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and saying “No” to drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

Each day during the week children and staff will support Red Ribbon Week through various activities and dressing up for theme days. Please refer to the themes listed below.

Tuesday (10/23): Kick off Red Ribbon Week – Sign pledge and hand out red ribbon stickers
Wednesday (10/24): “The Best Me is Drug-Free” – Wear Red Day
Thursday (10/25): “Put a Cap on Drugs” – Wear a hat Day
Friday (10/26): “Team up and just say No to drugs” – Wear your favorite sports team shirt day
Monday (10/29): “Be big, say No to drugs” – Wear an oversized tee-shirt day
Tuesday (10/30): “Don’t let drugs turn you inside out” – Wear clothes inside out day
Wednesday (10/31): “Be crazy without drugs” – Crazy hair day

If you have any questions please feel free to contact any of the VKAT coordinators, Lori Cutting, Desiree Gunter, Wendy Trainer, or Kristen Hersey
