Announcements 10-5-12

News from The Incredibles

In the Incredibles, all grades are bringing and end to their government focus.  We culminated this learning with a mock election.  This election was to emulate our Vt. Government.  With this, our students read speeches and gave their voters their platform.  Once this was done, all students had the option to vote for Governor, Lt. Governor, Senator and Senior Representative.  Our government will now work on taking the rule proposals from their peers and narrowing them down to fit in the Safe, Achieving and Caring categories.  Then they will be proposed to the teachers to see if they will make it to our rule posters in the classroom.

Their roles wont just stop their though.  They will continually meet to discuss field-trip ideas for their learning, rule changes or additions (when they feel there is a need) and even opportunity to add an additional job to our community.

SACS Walk to School Day - Friday Oct. 12th
Due to expected heavy rain on Thursday night, and possibly wet sidewalk and road conditions on the morning of Friday the 5th, we are postponing the “Walk to School Day” until Friday October 12th.  We hope this won’t be a huge inconvenience to anyone.

We are still eager to hold the walk.  To encourage walking and to develop interest in participation next week, we ask communities to consider trying a brief practice walk this Friday afternoon.  The sidewalks should be dry.  A loop going through our parking lot to Aldis street near the pool, along Aldis to North Elm, along North Elm to Bellows street and back to school is 4/10 mile.

Kids can practice Safe, Achieving & Caring behaviors.

SAFE:  Staying on existing sidewalks, walking in pairs, hands to self, staying with group
ACHIEVING:  Following instructions of adults
CARING:  Quiet voices and avoiding private property

SACS Rising Star

The National Geographic TV Channel came to VT to shoot a scene at Lake Champlain regarding lake monsters for a show that will air in the spring. SACS's own Rosie was asked to be involved!  Rosie and her family got a chance to see what goes on behind the scenes during a television shoot and Rosie had lots of fun being involved.
