Announcements 11-6-12

Mitt Romney (R)
Election Day
Barack Obama (D)

It is a very important day for our state and for our country. Today is the day that registered adults go to the polls and vote for not only the President but also the Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, State Treasurer, State and local Senators and Representatives, and also vote on many local issues. Students can vote if they choose in SACS mock election in the cafeteria at lunch.

News from Dynamic Design

Dynamic Design students are spending a portion of their time this year on Service Learning Projects.  These year-long projects are designed to help our students with college and career readiness, communication skills, collaboration, cooperation, citizenship, and social and civic responsibility.  Other components of this work will include research and written reflections.  Service groups include anti-bullying campaigns, sustainable fundraising, mural art restoration, playground and facilities management, and student teaching and mentoring with younger students, to name just a few.  Here are some thoughts from students:

"Our service learning is important because most of the projects are helping us learn more or helping the appearance of the school.  Since I am working on the mural in the library, it will help me be neater and careful about my work, and because I am good at art I can share my skills.  When it's all done, I will feel proud that I did something for the school."  -Kathleen, grade 8

"Oh, I love that.  It teaches us about life skills. I want to be a teacher, so if I help with the little kids, it will prepare me for life in the future."  -Taylor, grade 8

Band Announcement

Students and parents are reminded that students who are beginning band and orchestra lessons need to schedule regular practicing at home,  4-5 times during the week. Remember that Mr. Mehaffey has a band and orchestra website on the front page of our City School Webpage that has lesson times, concert information, and a weekly blog of things going on in the music department.

Energy Meeting

Team USA has rescheduled the Energy Club meeting to today at 1:45 in Mr .Cioffi's room.

Veterans Day

SACS is celebrating Veteran's Day in Taylor Park on Monday November 12th. Here are some songs we will all be singing together. Please practice in your classrooms.

This Land is Your Land

Chorus:
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me

Chorus:
As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an endless skyway
I saw below me a golden valley
This land was made for you and me

Chorus:
I've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me

This land is your land

Proud to be an American
Proud to be an American
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MGQjiBqO8A We will sing the entire song.

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I’d worked for all my life
And I had to start again
with just my children and my wife

I’d thank my lucky stars
to be livin here today
‘ Cause the flag still stands for freedom
and they can’t take that away

And I’m proud to be an American
where at least I know I’m free
And I wont forget the men who died
who gave that right to me

And I gladly stand up
next to you and defend her still today
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA

From the lakes of Minnesota
to the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas
From sea to shining sea

From Detroit down to Houston
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart
and its time we stand and say

That I’m proud to be an American
where at least I know I’m free
And I wont forget the men who died
who gave that right to me

And I gladly stand up
next to you and defend her still today
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA

And I’m proud to be and American
where at least I know I’m free
And I wont forget the men who died
who gave that right to me

And I gladly stand up
next to you and defend her still today
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA
