Announcements 1-11-12

St. Albans City School takes first place in the state's search for schools to nominate for a National Green Ribbon!

The Vermont Agency of Education (AOE) joined the National Green Ribbon Schools Program (ED-GRS), piloted in 2011/2012 by the U.S. Department of Education (US-ED). To be considered for the program, schools must have achieved or made considerable progress toward all three pillars established in the program: 1) energy efficient buildings; 2) healthy students and school environment; and 3) environmental literacy of all students. The combined achievement in these three areas is the basis for the Green Ribbon Schools award.  The AOE conducted a statewide search for outstanding green and healthy schools, and three schools have been chosen for nomination for federal recognition: St. Albans City Elementary School, Shelburne Community School, and Reading Community School. Within the next two months, the AOE will submit a nomination packet to US-ED highlighting the successes of each of these exemplary schools. By mid-April, we will know if Vermont has its first nationally-recognized Green Ribbon Schools! NWTC visits SACS to Share Career Information

Today students from the North West Technical Center joined their Outreach Coordinator Agnieszka Gagne and Guidance Counselor Susan Bosland to prepare our 7th and 8th grade students from all three communities for their Field Trip on February 7th to the Tech Center to explore Career Options. It was so nice to see the NWTC students discuss how they are becoming career ready, and what is available for our students.

Dance Tonight (1/11) for Grades 4, 5 and 6

PAG 2013 is hosting a dance tonight in the cafeteria. It's from 6:00-8:00pm and it's $3 to get in.

Arrival and Dismissal from Dances:

Students  enter through the gymnasium doors and sign themselves into the dance.

School Expectations (Safe, Achieving, Caring) remain at all evening events and that includes dances.

At the end of our dances, chaperones and staff will walk students through the building to our front lobby. We will dismiss from there.

Please be prompt for pick up as staff and chaperones need to get home too. If your student does not have a ride home, please don’t send them to our dances unless they have made arrangements before coming to the dance.

Have a song request? There is a sheet at lunch or you can email Mrs. Gunter at gunterd@fcsuvt.org with your request!

GET READY!!!!

It's time for a Box Tops for Education competition among our Learning Communities!

Starting next week, we will begin a 6-week competition to see which Learning Community can collect the most Box Tops for Education for our school, with the winning community to be announced just before the February Vacation.

Each week, students from Dynamic Design will collect from each community and count them up for submission.  We will post running totals in the daily announcements once a week so everyone can keep track of the progress.

So keep your eyes open for those products with Box Tops on them, and get ready for a little friendly competition, all in the spirit of supporting Sustainable Fundraising for our school!!
