Explorers Have Raider Pride!

Explorers have Raiders Pride because we are Safe, Achieving and Caring students.  We are very aware of being "Bucket Fillers".  We also know that everyONE counts.

Engineering Day

45 students from grades 4-8 went the the Vermont Air National Guard to participate in UVM's Engineering Day. Engineering Day is an opportunity for students to try their hand at being an engineer and going through the design cycle of planning, creating, testing and revising projects. We had 45 students compete in 4 different events: Edible Cars, Smartphones, Playful Invention and Tallest Tower. The goal in edible cars was to make a car with wheels that rolled out of only food items.  Students were really creative, making license plates with alphabet noodles, using a pumpkin to make a carriage and using fondant to shape a realistic looking purple car. Two of our groups: Dakota and Cole and Hailey, Abbie, Cecie and Ava won awards in this event. The playful invention competition brought out all different ideas, from totally digital inventions to using motors to create a car competition complete with an arena. David, Haley, Rebecca and Skylar took home the overall first place prize in this event for their design of a toy bear with an i-pod build in where you can play games, include The Mystery of Threll, an RPG (role playing game) game they created.  Kiara, Derek, Colin, Margot and Thomas also took home awards in this category. Ms. Bertucci would like to acknowledge all the participants for their hard work and creativity that went into making this day a successful learning experience.  She would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of Cooper, Ian and Benjamin who came in during all planning period and WIN times to design, test and revise their tower design. They continued to improve and rework their design to get higher and higher heights.
To read more about it take a look at the Engineering Day Article written by 2 of our students.
