Travelers Pollinator Garden in the Process of being Installed in Medians
The Travelers, Mr. Young and Mrs. Smith have been working hard to move plants from around the building into the parking lot medians (formerly home to the blueberry bushes). The garden beds next to the building are slated to be replaced next summer and this is the time of year to extract the plants and move them to a safe area.
We ask the parents, students and staff to please respect these pollinator garden sites at the parking lots by using the paved surfaces and designated walkways to get to and from the school building. If we can stay off the medians, we should have a beautiful set of flower beds for bees and butterflies in the spring. Thank you.

Stone Soup Made by Kindergarten
On Wednesday and Thursday last week (October 7th and 8th) Kindergarten picked vegetables and herbs from their gardens to make "stone soup" in each classroom. The teachers paired the experience with a reading of Marcia Brown's book by the same name. The goal of the experience was to connect kids with literature and the food-growing and preparation process in hopes of improving enthusiasm for locally grown healthy food. Many children asked for a second helping of stone soup because it tasted so good.
Planning for safer walking and biking to school and around St. Albans
On Friday (10-9-2015) community planning specialist, Mark Fenton, talked to members of the school staff and St. Albans community about ways to improve our children's health. It appears that providing safe, walkable routes to and from our schools and other important community sites is the most effective way to help us control weight and avoid diseases associated with inactivity. Furthermore, the group heard that walking and biking sidewalks, pathways and crossings can make our community a much more pleasant place to live in. As the entire St. Albans community moves to make walking and biking safer, we will need student and parent support and guidance for any choices made. Thank you to RiseVT for making this gathering and discussion possible.
