Friends of St. Albans City School (Formerly the PTO)
There has been a lot of talk about the new menu at St. Albans City School this year.   Please come to the City School cafeteria at 6:00PM on Tuesday, October 27th, and enjoy some samples of what the children at the school are eating.   There will be a focus on salad bar items like dressings and toppings.

Directly after that there will be a meeting of the Friends of St. Albans City School.   This month’s agenda items include election of Officers, approval of minutes, and next steps.  If you have any question please email Chad Spooner at chaddyvt@gmail.com.   Please like our Facebook page for updated information:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/stalbanscityschoolpto/

Incredibles Friday Cooking Experiences
Ms. Nikel organizes a cooking event for students in Incredibles on many Fridays.  Using Ms. Nikel and Walz's teaching space, a sink in a neighboring room, and the school's kitchen cart, the Incredibles turn out some fantastic food.  Here is a short video of students making apple twists with a number of St. Albans City School apples and some dough. Student Patrick Carlisle was kind enough to edit the video content down to just 1 minute.  Link to Video

Cooking Cart
For those teachers and students who may not be aware of the school's cooking cart. It lives in the Professional Library and is available for your food projects.  Contact Mrs Lamb or Mrs Smith if you are interested in using it.

Farm to School Experiment: Sweet Potatoes
Six sweet potato slips were planted as an experiment in the fenced in school garden this past summer. The result was an abundance of huge sweet potatoes at the end of the growing season. These pictures show some of the potatoes harvested in September and then the remaining potatoes harvested in October by Incredibles students.  Several mice were found feasting on the root crop at the second harvest.  Who would have thought that Vermont would be a great place to grow this typically southern crop.

Walk to school results for Wednesday October 21st
We had 176 walkers and bikers (23 adults and 153 students) come out last Wednesday for the "Walking Wednesday". Thank you to everyone who participated and supervised the event. We have another Walking Wednesday in two days. Vermonters are a hardy group of people. Step out the door this Autumn and join our walking school buses instead of getting on the regular bus.  Don't let the temperatures bother you.

A special thank you to Mr. Deslauriers and his helpers who arranged to have hot apple juice for everyone when they arrived at school on Walking Wednesday!

Discovery Tree Farm Grant
Team Discovery students proudly display their recent grant award letter from the New England Grassroots Environment Fund. This grant money will be used to purchase evergreen trees for their developing Christmas Tree Farm.

Unsung Heroes Cider Press Grant
Two stewards of the new St. Albans City School cider press display the award check that made the purchase possible. A plaque was also provided the school honoring the good work of our teachers.  We hope you all had a chance to try the apple cider made with the press last week.
