Triumph Transportation Assessment Group
Hi! Our group is made up of three 5th and three 6th graders. We met during WIN A in the early months of 2016. Our purpose was to examine the financial cost and environmental impact of busing and driving in vehicles to school.

Over the next few weeks, we would like to share some transportation facts with you! Our numbers come from data we gathered in careful morning car and bus ridership counts during a Tuesday and Thursday one week in March and from fuel data supplied by the bus company.

Did you know that only 10% of our students walk or bike to school on an average day?  It is not because we lack sidewalks. St. Albans is one of the few cities in Vermont that has sidewalks on almost every street.

Walking Wednesday Results

147 students and 15 adults walked or biked into school on Wednesday 5-4-2016. 20% of our students participated in the event. Team Triumph had the highest participation rate with roughly 1/3 of their students taking part. They win some time with RiseVT staff and the smoothie bikes on June 3rd.  Way to go Triumph! Explorers and Investigators were close behind. 7th & 8th graders.....?

Congratulations to our Geo-Bee Team! They got 3rd place in the regional challenge. They were able to answer some very challenging geography questions and they received certificates for participating.

The official green-up day in Vermont is Saturday, May 7th.

We hope that students will get involved in the St. Albans Green-up activities somehow.  Your community could consider doing some school-based green-up activities tomorrow on Fun Friday.  However, the best day for green-up activities for your community may be June 1st, our school wide stewardship day.

For snacks today we have grapes

  • Grapes come in many colors, including green, red, black, yellow, pink, and purple. "White" grapes are actually green.
  • Raisins are dried, sweet grapes. The drying happens naturally when the grapes are left in sunlight.
