Triumph Transportation Assessment Group Fact

Did  you know that in a typical month the buses use 655 gallons of diesel fuel? That amount of fuel use generates 7.25 tons of greenhouse gases.

It would take about 13 large fuel barrels to hold the monthly fuel needs for our buses.

Heads Up!  Wednesday will be our yearly official bike to school day in addition to our normal walk to school day.  All student and adult bikers that want to join in are welcome. The starting point will be the St. Albans Senior Center parking lot at 7:00 AM.  Like any walking school bus, this biking school bus will pick up students and their parents along the way. There will be a police escort.

Travelers Are Bee Stewards -stay away from the sidewalk area outside of Travelers!!!
Bee populations around the country are declining, meaning that many plants that depend on bees for pollination are being badly affected.  To help with the situation, the Travelers are hosting a hive of bees right in their classroom.  The bees enter and exit their hive through a special tube in the classroom wall.  To avoid being stung and irritating the bees, everyone needs to:
  • Stay away from the sidewalk outside of Travelers.  Find another way to get to the buses at departure time.
  • Avoid knocking on the window/door-bees dislike vibration. Bees are working to be productive should not be disturbed.

Sunrise Club Completed their Bat & Bird House Project

The sunrise club used grant funding to purchase a variety of bat and bird houses for painting and installing around the school property. This task has been completed and the school wants to thank the students and staff involved.  Birds and bats are beneficial to humans because they consume insects that harm our gardens and that are disliked by people.
One of the bat houses is shown above the students

State 2016 Vermont Tree Steward Award goes to Heather Smith

Heather, our Farm-to-School Coordinator, has shown excellent leadership at St. Albans City School by directing students in the planting of numerous fruit and landscaping trees around our property.

On Friday, May 6th she traveled to our state capital (Montpelier) to receive state-wide recognition from the VT Urban Community Forestry Program for the work she directed here over the last three years. Heather preferred that the state honored the research and labor of the student who planted the trees rather than herself. But the truth of the matter is that St. Albans City School would not have been able to plant so many trees without her knowledge, direction and drive. Thank you Mrs. Smith. Thanks also to the many students who helped with the planting over the last three years.
