Emotion Faces Made with Fruits and Vegetables
On Fun Friday 9-16-2016, Pre-K and Kindergarten students created happy, sad, mad, etc. faces with fruits and vegetables.  The faces lasted only a short while as soon the children enjoyed eating the supplied fruit and vegetable parts.

Imagination Made Salsa 9-16-2016
Last Friday team Imagination picked tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and other vegetables from their garden to make fresh salsa.  They chopped these up and then ate the salsa with chips.  Some loved the new taste of uncooked fresh salsa.  Others stuck to the chips alone. Everyone enjoyed the process of making the salsa.

It is time to start wearing your bike helmet
Wear whatever it takes to protect your head. If you want something that looks cool then realize there are many kinds of helmets on the market.

NOTE: THESE HELMETS ARE JUST EXAMPLES AND ARE NOT AVAILABLE THROUGH THE SCHOOL LOW-COST HELMET PURCHASE PROGRAM.

A helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by up to 85% and the risk of brain injury by almost 90%

Here are some grim facts
Every year, thousands of children are treated in hospital emergency rooms for head trauma and injuries suffered in bike and ski falls and crashes. Even a “minor” head injury can cause long term problems if not permanent personality changes and learning disabilities.

Nearly half of the most serious injuries happen when children are riding in their own neighborhoods. An estimated 75% of bicycle-related fatalities among children could be prevented with a bike helmet.

If you don't have access to a helmet order form, then please feel free to pick one up in the school lobby.

Snacks for today are blueberries and raspberries
Scientists have found berries have some of the highest antioxidant levels of any fresh fruits (measured as ORAC), and kale and spinach are the only vegetables with ORAC values as high as fresh, delicious berries. Fresh berries are some of the most powerful (and delicious) disease-fighting foods available.
