Granny Smith Apples
Granny Smith apples are often used in baking because of their high acidity and ability to hold their shape when cooked. Try baked into sweet or savory pies, tarts, or meat pastries; add to savory bread stuffing, risotto or potato pancakes. Their sweet-tart flavor is a great addition to soups, smoothies and sauces. Because they are slow to brown when cut, they are perfect diced and added to fresh preparations such as salads and salsas or sliced and paired with cheese.

Bell Peppers
Bell peppers also known as sweet peppers are native to Mexico , Central and South American region from where they spread to the rest of the world by Spanish and Portuguese explorers during 16th and 17th centuries and now grown widely in many parts of the world as an important commercial crop. Bell peppers belong to the nightshade family of plants. They come in a variety of colors including yellow, green, orange, red, purple, white black etc. Interesting enough there are peppers of the colors brown, white and black! The green ones are the most common in groceries and supermarkets.

Day of Code 2016 is almost here!

December 5-11 is computer science week, a global event with over 180 countries participating! This special week will be highlighted to raise awareness around computer science and programming.

On Thursday, December 8th, we will be celebrating and participating in Day of Code! We challenge YOU to spend at least 1 hour on this day learning about programming and coding. We will have resources for iPads, tablets, Chromebooks, and others that require no technology at all!

Teachers, please keep your eyes out for future emails letting you know about several special guest workshops happening throughout the day such as designing your own computer game, evolutionary robotics, and our beloved Way Back Time Machine. If you don't know a whole lot about coding, no worries, we have you covered with some of our stress free unplugged kits. These kits will have all of the materials and resources for an unplugged activity and they are great for our younger learners! Please keep your eye out for more information coming soon!

If you are feeling adventurous, check out the resources at the Hour of Code site for some more information.

If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Borst or Ms. Bertucci.
